The most stupid problem...

We just bought a 1999 JGC limited and BOTH rear passenger and driver side doors will not open from the inside OR outside. They told us they initially wouldn't open from the outside then they thought the child safety lock was engaged so they switched them to what they thought was "off" (not sure why as that wouldn't affect the way the outside handles operate..) but now they will not open AT ALL. We have two young boys and it was a good deal on the Jeep so we bought it anyways thinking it could be an easy fix....PLEASE tell me we are right and it will be an easy fix?!?

Re: The most stupid problem...

Welcome to the garage.
Im affraid that its not such an easy repair. You should remove the door trim panel to get access to the rods, most probably 1 rod is disconnected. But im almost sure that the door has to be open to get to several screws.............
Not sure if its possible to move the child lock lever with some wire in between the door. Will have a look at mine later.

Re: The most stupid problem...

We got it! We had to get the top of the door panel off. We broke a couple clips (but it's better then none usable doors!) and one of the door handles. We a trying to find another pewter color back driver side door handle and not having a whole lot of luck....
Once we got the door open the first thing we did was switch OFF the child safety locks. Then saw the rods were disconnected on both sides. Anyone have any tips on a more permanent fix? It sounds as though it's common and a pain! lol!

Re: The most stupid problem...

Probably the plastic locks of the rods are broken? Dealer is probably the easiest place to find new ones.
