Transmission Control Module

Simple question - where is it??

According to the workshop manual it is located on the R/H inner wing (fender). Not on mine though, possibly because it is a right hand drive and there is a brake servo in the way. It's not in the corresponding place on the opposite side, that has the PCM attached to it. No sign of it anywhere under the bonnet at all in fact.

Help!!!

Re: Transmission Control Module

On my 2003 Jeep Liberty (steering wheel on the left) the TCM was under the hood, on the passenger side, about 9 inches from the top, and centered from front to back. I would send you a photo, but I traded the Liberty off 3 months ago. The TCM had to be replaced about 2 years ago. It was the size of about 2 decks of playing cards.

Here is the location for a 2006 which may be similar to yours.

Where is the transmission control module located on a 2006 - JustAnswer

Re: Transmission Control Module

I saw once a picture of the engine bay of a right hand driven WJ with 4.7 engine. When i remember well, the TCM sits just next to the PCM at the left fender/firewall area.

Re: Transmission Control Module

I think that there must be substantial differences in the location of parts when comparing lhd to rhd. Here are some pictures of mine:

Firstly, the right hand side of the engine bay:

As you can see, the fuse box and battery are there but where the TCM should be the brake servo is located.

Now the left hand side of the engine bay:

This looks similar with the PCM and the ABS being in the same place as for lhd. The air box is mounted directly to the wing and there are no other electronics modules in sight. I suspect that the TCM is inside the car somewhere, probably under the dash board but certainly not on the right hand side.

Oh well, the more electrics I dismantle the less to induce the comms fault that I have!!

Re: Transmission Control Module

For the diesel version, the TCM is placed next to the gear lever, on the rh side.

Re: Transmission Control Module

SO I gather from all you wonderful people that the Final Drive Control Module is the same as the transmission Control Module. I really appreciate all the clarification and all the help. Have a wonderful evening.

Thank you for the compliment to us dear sir, but unfortunately you are wrong (not about the wonderful people ofcourse)
Not familiar with this final drive control module, since the WJ (99-04 grand) doesn't have it, but its an electronic control module to control the shift motor on 05 and up grands and some other types.
You are probably thinking about the safety recall, which will reflash the software of the final drive control module?

Re: Transmission Control Module

That's Frank but now you are the one who is wrong. LOL. I am not a sir. I am a woman. This is all prompted by my love for my Jeep and the distrust of dealerships. I went in for a recall and now there is a $500.00 bill attached to it. I learned from a Chevy dealer that they can not be trusted. I do appreciate all the help. It has given me some insight.
