Transmission fluid change 5-45RFE

Hi guys,

I'm about to change the tranny fluid and the filters, but now even the stealership doesn't have the original MOPAR filters available. Knowing about the drainback problems with some of the cooler return spin on filters, i'm a little concerned to buy non MOPAR filters. How is your experience with the non MOPAR ones? Any brand which for sure i should not buy?

Do the dealers carry any filters at all?

If your dealer does not have them, you could order them from Just For Jeeps or one of the other online Mopar parts retailers.

Re: Transmission fluid change 5-45RFE

Its here in Brazil quite difficult to find any parts for jeeps and the prizes are sky high. Donīt know the reason why the dealer doesnīt have any filter at the moment and ordering myself in the US will take at least 6 weeks to arrive. My normal MOPAR parts supplier told me that he also canīt get his hands on the original filters. An other company can get me a filter set from Allomatic or SPX-Filtran, which brands donīt ring me a bell.
When i did my last fluid/filter change, i used non MOPAR filters from a brand i donīt know, but in less then a year later the problem started that the fluid was draining back to the sump after being parked for many hours and after startup late gear engagement occured. This is probably the infamous checkvalve inside the spin-on oilcooler return filter which doesnīt close properly, causing the drainback.
Has anybody experience with filters from Allomatic or SPX-Filtran?
