transmission problem...I guess

Hello
I want to buy an WJ - Grand Cherokee from 2002 automatic transmission
2.7 CRD Ltd
I haven t seen the car yet, only in pictures but a friend of mine spoke with the owner and he said "Car was standing for 3 months now and when i tried to drive it it goes only on emergency gear, you can drive up to 40-50 miles per hour.

Spoke with two different garages and they advised that is solinoids. Not so difficult to fix. "

My problem is if there is a possibility in this situation that entire transmission to be damaged or the repairings to be very expensive. does anyone know if the problem described could means a more serios and expensive fault because I won t go there to see it.
my friend will see and after that will buy
also what 4WD system is on this car. I read is quadra drive
thank you

Re: transmission problem...I guess

Difficult to tell without having seen the jeep. Did the transmission problem happen due to it standing still for 3 months, or is it standing still for 3 months because of a problem with the transmission?
You need to read the fault codes to know more or less what is going on with the transmission.
Quadra Drive has Vari-Loc differentials, they will lock automatically in case a speed difference occurs between 2 wheels on the same axle.
