Re: Transmission slipping

Had the afternoon free yesterday and started with the installation of the transmission. Put the tranny on the lift platform and put the torque converter in at the last moment, already under the jeep and lined up (don´t forget the torque converter shaft O´ring) There are 4 bolts going from the tranny bellhousing upper part into the engine block and more 2 going from the engine into the bellhousing. When i wanted to install the starter motor, i couldn´t find the 2 bolts anymore. I had put all bolts and loose parts in separate plastic bags, but they where just gone. Looked at every corner, turned everything upside down, but after an hour or so i just gave up. Will have to buy new ones, but for sure they will pop up after a while when i don´t need them anymore...........
With the 6 upper half bolts in place, started fastening the torque converter with its 4 bolts. The crankshaft has to be turned to get access to each bolt hole at a time. When these are torqued, the engine to transmission collar can be installed, but i leave it of for a while, because i want to remove the engine oil pan, just to inspect the oil inlet screen. This is a good time to do it, because the exhaust Y-pipe needs to be lowered to create space for the pan to drop.
So i continued mounting the T-case and the aft transmission mount and cross member. This is where i am now. I´m still waiting for the transmission solenoid block gasket, so the valve body and solenoid are still on the bench waiting to be installed later.

Re: Transmission slipping

Hi Dave, just returned yesterday from a week in the Netherlands. The solenoid block gasket arrived ( its in fact a complete solenoid block repair kit) and installed the valve body into the tranny today and closed it.
Now i will lower the engine oil pan and check the oil screen before reinstalling the exhaust Y-pipe. I also still have to flush out the tranny cooler.

Re: Transmission slipping

Yessss, today was the day. Finished the engine oil pan gasket installation and mounted the exhaust back in place. Filled the engine and the tranny with their fluids, put the battery back in and it started up directly.
Some smoke from the mini converters, which had some oil on them, but for the rest nothing strange. Took it for a ride and got the check engine light quite soon thereafter. Don´t remember the exact code anymore, but it had to do with a pressure switch on the solenoid pack. Just reset it, because air in the lines can in the beginning cause some weird things. Drove it for about 50 km and all was fine, no leaks.
Now the first shiftkit results: shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd goes quickly and smooth, but 3rd to 4th goes rough. I didn´t do the quick learn on the TCM, which would have set all parameters back to zero and making the shift learn quicker.
The TCM is still using the previous settings and is calculating with the old CVI´s (= Clutch Volume Index = volume of fluid needed to compress a clutch pack. Now that the clutches are new, the volumes are less and the clutch will compress quicker), but also the heavier accumulator springs and other modifications from the shift kit are making the shift different and the TCM has to learn this.
When i have some time left i will check the CVI´s with the scanner of a collegue of mine to see if they are all within limits, but sofar its all working again and
I´M A HAPPY JEEPER AGAIN

You will need a DRBIII scanner to do that.

Ha, ok never mind then, I will just do the battery reset. I'm finally going to put in a line pressure resistor for the shift kit. Wasn't sure if I needed it since I have the SC but hopefully it works as well as Cheap's if not I can always take it off.
