Re: V8 Miss-behaving....

I would start doing this first. Worn plugs could already be your problem, eventhough it would be strange that all three stopped working fine at the same time.

I then took the coil from cylinder #1 and swopped it with cylinder #5 and started the Jeep, again unplugging coils while idling, no change when unplugging #1, but change when unplugging #5, leading me to believe that the coils are fine.

I did not take the plugs out thou. I dont believe it to be injector related as you can smell the overfueling of the unburnt fuel.

Hopes it makes sense? This has me baffled. I need to spend some time under the bonnet going through the harness.

Nope, a soaked plug is perfectly normal on a cylinder that is not contributing. there needs to be the proper mixture of air to fuel to combust the hydrocarbons, when there is a dead hole in a cylinder its not uncommon to flood that cylinder. Thats why driving on a misfire will kill your catalytic converters, it dumps raw fuel down into the hot cats and melts them down.

Re: V8 Miss-behaving....

HI Guys,

So a quick update...

My Jeep guy took a look at the problem, it turns out not to be electrical at all, but the 'valves not seating correctly' problem..

Took both heads of, and it seems like the valves on cylinder #2 smacked the top of the piston pretty bad aswell, so far $3300 in the hole to have it all repaired.

So work being done:

New waterpump - suspected of not operating correctly, warn imppeller blades
Heads to be rebuildt - Engineering work
New head gaskets
Removal of sump to pull out piston - New piston and rings, no damage to cylinder sleeve (luckily)
Replacement sump gaskets etc.

Starting to wonder if its all worth it as I paid around $7000 for the Jeep.
