Weird A/C Problem

Hello Jeepers

I just picked up a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. My 5th Jeep.

It had a broken blend door which I fixed via a kit recommended on this site, so that works fine, got it all closed back up no problems.

With the fan running on high and A/C set to vents, I do get airflow out of the vents but not much. Its as if something is blocking the vent intake so its not getting airflow???

There is no filter under the hood cowling so that cant be clogged.

Also when I switch between floor or defrost and so on it does change the direction of airflow.

Just once again very little airflow ???

My buddy has one and his blower will almost blow you out of the vehical.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Weird A/C Problem

Welcome to the garage.
Was it blowing normally before doing the blend door repair?
It can happen that the recirculation door is broken and laying just above the blower motor. You can easily remove the blower motor from the underside of the HVAC housing in the passenger foot well. Just look up then to see where the door is.
If this is ok, was any work done to the blower motor? A wrongly wired blower motor will rotate in the opposite direction with as a result almost no air blowing.

Re: Weird A/C Problem

thanks for that input. I will drop the motor tomorrow and have a look see at that door.

The wiring was factory color coded to the blower motor, I did rewire as the factory one was melted and shorting out in the plug.

Re: Weird A/C Problem

So have a look at the recirculation door, but ive seen several times already that changing the wiring to the blower motor/controller made the blower rotate into the wrong direction.

Re: Weird A/C Problem

You guys were right on.

OK this was it, great news was it was a fast easy fix.
Recirc door was broke. Propped it open and airflow returned.

Took longer to get the glove box out than to do the repair.

Thanks for every ones input.

3 Things now fixed from this forum, blend door and recirc door and blower wiring harness burned up . Great work guys.
