Weird Problem???

So While I was driving the other day, a bunch of stuff just stopped working...

1. The ambient air temperature display on the EVIC shows a dashed line. Alone with all of the mileages and times on the EVIC

2. The auto headlight function doesn't work. I have to manually turn on the headlights.

3. The steering wheel radio controls don't work anymore.

As of now that is all I have found that is inoperable. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

BTW I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee 4.7L

Re: Weird Problem???

Hi,

I've been struggling with exactly this problem for a few months now.

It first happened at the beginning of 2012, and I noticed a cracked connector on the coolant temp sensor. Replaced this and all was OK for about 6 months.
It went again Nov 2012, so I replaced the coolant sensor again, but it did no good.

The received wisdom is that it is a duff signal on the PCI bus wire, possibly due to a dodgy earth connection somewhere. The most likely location being in the loom between the door(s) and the body.

Good luck with this, my latest thought is that it is my Fuel Level Sensor, I get erratic readings on the fuel gauge.

A temporary fix is to either remove and replace the IOD fuse, (No. 15) in the under bonnet power distribution, or disconnect, and re-connect, the battery negative. Either of these resets the BCM and your readings will then be OK, but for how long is anybody's guess. Make sure you know your radio code before you do this.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

Tont N

Re: Weird Problem???

I posted a question about my EVIC a couple of months ago and had no response. I put it back up again by responding with my own answer. I am still having the same problem which comes and goes with temperature changes inside the cabin. Once the cabin is warm and I restart the ignition, the problem goes away and the EVIC seems to be working OK. I have not had issues with some of the other electronic systems like you, but i will try to stay in touch with those systems to see if any of them show failure when the cabin is cold. Maybe between the two of us we can figure this out. I do know there are several different systems that are all inter connected with a buss connection which can give problems.

Re: Weird Problem???

Hi Me Fix, it seems that your EVIC problem is a bit different, since you loose all power to the EVIC and not really the PCI data bus info, which would result in dashes. Please see also my response on your EVIC thread.
