werid humming

My 04 wj has 180,000 miles on it. engine is fine. When i put it in Reverse or just sitting in Netural something humms real loud (thinking my trans but no hard shifting or any complaints with any gears) as soon as i go to drive it stops, when in park its fine aswell, doesnt matter if in 4 wheel or not. Any ideas of my plan of attack.

Re: werid humming

If you have the 4.7 with 5-45RFE combination, it can be the solenoid pack inside the transmission which is making a humming sound. No idea why it does it.

Re: werid humming

Here is what the jeep manual says for buszzing noise in the 42RE:

1. Fluid Level Low 1. Add fluid and check for leaks.
2. Shift Cable Mis-assembled. 2. Route cable away from engine and bell
housing.
3. Valve Body Mis-assembled. 3. Remove, disassemble, inspect valve
body. Reassemble correctly if necessary.
Replace assembly if valves or springs are
damaged. Check for loose bolts or screws
4. Pump Passages Leaking. 4. Check pump for porous casting, scores
on mating surfaces and excess rotor
clearance. Repair as required. Loose pump
bolts.
5. Cooling System Cooler Plugged. 5. Replace cooler.
6. Overrunning Clutch Damaged. 6. Replace clutch.

Re: werid humming

My WJ humms like loud ever since I added the engine. Ohh I should tell you guys that read this I got the truck when one of my friends moved to Mexico and he had the whole thing without an engine and he gave it to me for free. I had to install a used engine that I bought for like 2 grand because it had a warentee and I works awesome but I notice that not all jeep like mine a 00' dont humm like mine. When you turn it on and have it in diffrent gears like all of them it will humm loud like if it was moving lots of wind, and especialy when I acceleratae but not a big deal for me since I got use to it but it bothers me at times. I hope someone has an anwser for this.
