Re: Which WJ is best to buy used?

That Overland looks like an exact copy of mine, except that someone has changed the radio.

Mine was built in June of 03 I have just under 180k miles. Here are just a few of the issues that I have had.

Adjustable pedals.
Power steering pump x2
Front differential (rebuild) x2
Front CV axles and wheel bearings
Blend doors midcase unit
Drivers side rear exhaust manifold bolt broke
Radiator replaced
Tire pressure sensors
Rain sense wipers

I keep my Jeep in good condition because it is my work vehicle, I had a 2000 Laredo before that I ran up to 280k miles. The Laredo did not have anywhere near as many problems an this Overland.

Don't get me wrong, I love this Overland, great power, outstanding all weather work vehicle that is just the right size for my needs.

To your benefit the one that you are looking as has 112k miles, most of my troubles had been corrected by then, so if the previous owner took care of it, you may be OK.

Try to get as much service history as possible, see if the blend doors have been already done. Make sure if you can that the proper (special) fluids have been used in the differentials and transfer case. Jeeps also require special anti freeze (HOAT) and MS5931 power steering fluid.

If it has all been maintained correctly that Overland should be good for a long time.

Good luck.

Re: Which WJ is best to buy used?

I did a lot of reasearch on this and basicly the '03 was rated higher and had less recalls then any of them even '04. Do get a Selc-trac.

Re: Which WJ is best to buy used?

My 04 JGC was bought in 07 or 08 with 35k miles on it i paid 12.900 at a jeep dealer. Just a 2wd laredo 4.0 nothing special that i know of. I haven't had any problems besides the broken wire in the door, this funny acting power seat switch, and i'm replacing the master cylinder today because of an o ring leaking. I have only replaced battery, tires, brakes, rotors. I have 94k on it now and i am diagnosing the clunking sound in the rear, probably due to the lift i put on. This has been the best vehicle i have ever owned! Can't wait to hit 200k on it. (gonna be awhile) the engine runs smooth as can be and everything. Just wish the tail pipe wouldn't always have the carbon ring one the end like every other one i have seen!
