Re: Which WJ is best to buy used?
That Overland looks like an exact copy of mine, except that someone has changed the radio.
Mine was built in June of 03 I have just under 180k miles. Here are just a few of the issues that I have had.
Power steering pump x2
Front differential (rebuild) x2
Front CV axles and wheel bearings
Blend doors midcase unit
Drivers side rear exhaust manifold bolt broke
Tire pressure sensors
Rain sense wipers
I keep my Jeep in good condition because it is my work vehicle, I had a 2000 Laredo before that I ran up to 280k miles. The Laredo did not have anywhere near as many problems an this Overland.
Don't get me wrong, I love this Overland, great power, outstanding all weather work vehicle that is just the right size for my needs.
To your benefit the one that you are looking as has 112k miles, most of my troubles had been corrected by then, so if the previous owner took care of it, you may be OK.
Try to get as much service history as possible, see if the blend doors have been already done. Make sure if you can that the proper (special) fluids have been used in the differentials and transfer case. Jeeps also require special anti freeze (HOAT) and MS5931 power steering fluid.
If it has all been maintained correctly that Overland should be good for a long time.
