Seems you were right! The Jeep guy gave my WJ a thorough assessment and a good test drive and said the noise is nothing to worry about! It's normal and he's heard a lot worse in the past and they were fine too, just normal diff noise! He seemed to think it was coming from the front. He got her up on the lift and checked out the condition and levels of both diff's and transfer box oils and they were nice and clean good quality oils and seemed to have been changed fairly recently, he also checked many other things including brakes, transmission and engine oils and other systems on the car all seems good, he said she's in very good shape and seems to have been well looked after, just one thing he said the hand brake is a little weak and will need to be checked out before the next M.O.T. but it's adequate for now, he also scanned her for any fault codes etc and there were none so she's got a clean bill of health for now and i'm real pleased! He told me it is an American built WJ (Ohio) and not an Austrian build vehicle, a very friendly genuine guy and won't do anything that doesn't need doing just to make some money, nice fellah! Will definitely be using him again, thanks for taking the time to respond to my post folks!

Re: Whining/Droning noise

........I may try Franks' suggestion of taking the front prop off when I get a chance just for the hell of it to see if it is indeed the front though, I love tinkering!
