I have a 2000 WJ with I6 it started shouting off when going down the road and if I let it set for twenty minutes it would fire up and off I went ok so I have installed a new crank and cam sender and new fuel pump and fuel filter and it will not start at all what could it be I'm running out of money and I'm about to burn it to the ground
You first need to know if the problem is fuel related, or ignition related. Did you check if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail?
Did you check the plugs? Any fuse blown?
A faulty auto shutdown relay will already prevent it to start, you could swap it with an other relay in the PDC under the hood.
If all this seems to be fine, you could check the 5V sensor supply, which goes to the cam, crank, MAP and TPS sensors. A short in one of these components will bring the 5V supply down and it will not start.
A well known problem is the wiring running around the cylinder head. It can rub on a bolt and short a wire to ground.
Did you check for any fault code set? The new crank sensor had the paper shim on its tip? This shim will set the gap for the sensor and will be removedduring the first start. Without shim the sensor will be destroyed at first start.
The paper shim is only there to set the right gap the first time, once started the shim will be peeled away and you will need a new shim to set the right gap again. If the shim was not there in the first place, the sensor tip is most probably destroyed. Since you changed some parts, the problem got worse, so i would look again at those sensors. Did you use original Mopar sensors, because parallel parts can sometimes give problems.
Got new cam and crank scencers no start I hade someone stick a gennicues computer on it thay said it's the cam scencer wire so I jumper the cam and crank with a jumper wire and steel no spark what do I do with this thing it's driving me nuts I'm thinking about treading it for a ford tockus ?
I don't think you can just jumper the sensor. The Jeep is looking for a pulse to tell it the location of the crank and cam. If you jumper it, then the sensor is telling the Jeep that the crank/cam is sitting still and not moving and it won't spark.
If you install the new cam sensor and it doesn't work, I would start to look for a short in the wiring. If all else fails, take it to a shop and let them fix it.
You should not jumper the cam nor crank sensor connectors. First of all, it will do no good, because the PCM wants to see pulses from the cams which pass along the sensors and secondly, you could do harm to the PCM.
In attachment the wiring schematic for the cam and crank sensors. With ignition in run, check if the 5V supply power is available at the cam sensor connector pin 3. The power to the PCM will be cut after a few seconds when the engine is not started, so you will need a helper to switch the ignition to run, while you measure the power. You will only not see if the cam sensor is the problem. You should also measure from the TPS connector pin 3 for 5 V, with the cam sensor connected. When ok, then you have to measure the other wires for continuity and short to ground.
Thanks guys when I said I was jumping the crank and cam all I was doing was running a wire from the PCM to the cam and crank elimateing the rest of the wires in case I had a break or bad spot and that did not work I'll try tomorrow to see if I have volts I'm disabled and can only work on it a short amount but I'm tuff and will not give up no this
I don't know how you put the jumper wires on the cam and crank sensors, but did you check for continuity and short to ground of the cam sensor signal wire? If you just put a jumper, but left the original wires in place, then a shorted signal wire would still bring the return signal down.
Ok so it runs but only for five seconds than it shout off what's going on is it because I've installed a junk yard PCM and my keys not programmed for it ?
Its not the keys, because they are programmed to the SKIM (security key imobilizer module), but the PCM must have the SKIM secret code. Now the PCM doesn´t receive the key ok signal from the SKIM and the engine will shut off after a few seconds. You probably have to take it to the stealer for the programming.
Ok I had the jeep towed to the dealers they checked to see if the wire from the skim to the pcm was bad it was good and know I have no gages thay said the PCM is out of it so I ordered one to day it's a plug and play had to call and give them all my info and they are going to burn me another one let's hope this is it
ITS ALIVE ITS ALIVE I got a plug and play off of EBay called them with all my information thay burnt me a PCM got it today and it runs great Thank You for the help it is greatly appreciated
