WJ 4.0 Coolant Leak

I have had a coolant leak for a couple months now. Comes and gos with temps changing. Leaks under front drivers side. See images for ref. Usually looks splattered around radiator and hoses with major puddle underneath but can not verify source. Could it be just a hose clamp? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: WJ 4.0 Coolant Leak

Donīt know why, but the pictures donīt open.
The radiator is well known to give leaks. Mostly there starts a crack between the seam of the aluminum core and the plastic tank.
Did you check the radiator cap as well, because they also can misteriously start leaking.

Re: WJ 4.0 Coolant Leak

Check the coolant overflow bottle as well. Remove it and clean it out if necessary and look for any funny microcracks.

The liquid can run down the radiator mount and mislead you as to its source.
The radiators are infamous for cracking both at the core/tank interface but also at the lower outlet. If it is the radiator, suggest trying an aftermarket.

The water pump usually just weeps a bit, but if it has been weeping long, it might show a puddle.

Drop some dye and coolant and get a UV light, and pressure wash the engine to remove any false leads.

Or, pressure test it...

Re: WJ 4.0 Coolant Leak

The second picture appears to be the steering gearbox? I think the only thing above that is the main hose. I would check if it still has a good seal to the radiator.

Just an FYI, my problem started that way, turned out the the bolts on the pump and somehow worked loose causing the gasket to fail. It would drip down right at the front of the oil pan. It was impossible to see it until the electric fan/shroud were removed. Good Luck.

Re: WJ 4.0 Coolant Leak

Did you find out what's causing it? You have the lower Rad hose, overflow hose attaches to the filler neck, and the Rad cap above the gearbox. Unless it's leaking between the plastic tank and core.
I had to replace the upper hose today because it was so old it split at the thermostat housing.
