WJ drive train wine

Hi,

I have noticed a drive train wine in my rig (2001 WJ 4.0 L). Seems to be there all the time when driving never really gets loud, but it is still there. Comes on as I speed up and goes away as I slow. Rev's of the engine do not seem to make a difference. It is a select track, would this make any difference?

What should I look at first.

Thanks
Flyboy

Re: WJ drive train wine

Fluids first....check the transfer case, trans, and differentials. If you haven't changed fliud in these, you may be either low, or the fluid may be bad. I ALWAYS use Mopar juice in the transfer case and transmission, and I've had good luck using Mobil 1 or Royal Purple gear oil in the differentials.

Re: WJ drive train wine

I used to have a high pitched whine in the front my Jeep. It would start/stop around 10mph and would change pitch proporational to speed (not engine RPM). I checked through the TC, tranny, and differential. Turns out it was a bad wheel bearing. It didn't make the normal moaning noise of a wheel bearing. Higher pitched whine.

Probably not your problem, but just an idea.
