WJ power steering leak

Hey had a power steering has leaked since i bought it, it looks to me like the leak is out of the line that attaches to the top of the reservoir near cap. I believe the problem is in the fitting that attaches the hose to the reservoir, on what I think this is the fluid return line. The leak has gotten bad and i need to fix it. has anyone had this problem, or know how to fix it?

Re: WJ power steering leak

Is it a metal pipe with a fitting that goes into the pump right next to the reservoir? I can't remember the years, but do you also have the PS driven fan? If so this is a common problem and they redesigned the hose and fitting after a few years. Fairly simple to replace yourself, unbolt the old one, put in the new one, and fill and bleed the steering system.

Re: WJ power steering leak

I ended up getting mine at the dealer (its all one part, fittings, o-rings, etc). justforjeeps.com also has the hose. I am not sure if all aftermarket hoses (like from rockauto.com or advance/oreillys, etc) would be based off the redesign or not. You would be looking for the pressure hose from pump to fan.

Re: WJ power steering leak

I see your jeep is a 2000, are you sure you have the hydraulic fan driven by power steering? What I have found shows that 2001 was the first year for that.

Re: WJ power steering leak

I'm not sure actually. I'll have to look at it and do some research. but would that hose and fitting be the same regardless?

Re: WJ power steering leak

No, there is 1 hose designed to go from the pump to the fan, then a second hose for fan to steering gear for those with the hydraulic fan. If you do not have the hydraulic fan the hose would just go from the pump straight to the steering gear. Regardless of your system it sounds like you need a new hose.
