Smile Wont Start

Please help. Jeep Grand Cherokee 2003 WJ 2.7CRD Limited. I have been having trouble starting after long rest, crank twice for 30 sec - usually starts on second try. Sometime engine light on and in limp mode sometimes not. If in limp a restart clears error. On open road can notice engine pulse, rev goes up down but don't feel it, can see and hear engine. Turbo fine, fuel consumption normal. When towing notice power seems lower than before, not as gutzy. I am a put put around the place driver and seldom working the vehicle, except when towing horesebox.

Did oil, filters & 2 glow plugs. Drove to wash bay. When its my turn Jeep wont start. Did not get washed. Trouble codes: P2125, P0235, P0190, P2120, P1608, P0115, P1685.

Dealer done two diagnostics tests and pronounce ECU/PCM control module faulty (P56044 418AB). Any opinions or advice?

Re: Wont Start

Unfortunately no experience on the 2.7CRD. But looking at the DTC´s set, a lot of sensor circuits are giving a fault. This can be due to a failed PCM, or even a short in one of the sensors, which brings the sensor circuit power down to all other sensors which are connected to this same power source (from the PCM). Sofar couldn´t find a wiring schematic for the 2.7, but will come back as soon as i found it.

Re: Wont Start

Thanks Frank. I am suspicious of the crankshaft poistion sensor being the culprit. However I have found someone to test the PCM. I understand that I cannot install the PCM from another regardless of the same part number as they have some sort of DNA signature matching each vehicle. So I either buy new (2nd bond on house) or repair old. James.

Re: Wont Start

When needed i think that you can install the PCM from an other vehicle, but it only has to be programmed to your vehicles VIN. But is it not a good idea to first see if the sensor voltage is available and if not, to disconnect each sensor at a time and see if it returns?
