Wont start

Hi all, I purchased my 2004 grand cherokee overland in November and I'm already on my 3rd NEW battery. It's seems as almost every couple of weeks it just won't start up. I've taken it to my mechanic and he changed the battery, put in new wires, checked the alternator all that. But still nothing has solved the problem. I'm not really too good with cars but I was just wondering if someone could tell me if they had the same problem or if I could have my mechanic check something else Thanks a lot mattchu7@verizon.net

Re: Wont start

The title says "wont start", but i presume that is because of the battery which is flat every time. Do you drive the jeep on daily basis? Why im asking this is due to the following: it is quite common that the ignition key barrel gets bad. When that happens, you can remove the key in any position. When you turn the key all the way back, its in the ACC position and several components will stay powered, draining your battery quickly. Have a look if this is the case for you and as temporary solution you just have to look at the key position every time you remove the key from the ignition. If this is not the case, then current must be measured with ignition in off. By removing the fuses in the PDC one by one and measuring the current again you can find out which component is causing the drain. Only be aware that several components stay alive for a while after ignition key is removed and even when changing the door position (closed or open), so you have to keep the doors in one position only during these tests and wait for 30 minutes more or less after removing the key and changing a door position.
