Re: An Introductory Guide To Upgrading Your WJ's Interior Lighting To LED

got a bunch of bulbs switched out today, the underhood light replacement is basically impossible to get the leds to face out without some kind of fabrication. Going to try to figure something out. the Festoon bulbs were finicky to get to turn on at first, but I spun them a few times in their sockets and they lit right up.

Heres some pics of the underhood light situation (bulb #561)
flash (shows how the loop hooks seat):

no flash (shows how the LEDs face to the left instead of down):

I had that same issue too, and in the cargo area I had to bend the contacts together first to get them to hold the bulb properly.

Found some info that says the replacement bulb is #74 for Mopar # 04437661 (the 4 EVIC bulbs, not the #192 dome lights, as seen here http://wjjeeps.com/evic2.jpg ) This would mean it uses the same bulb as the 5 in the gauges and anyone who hasnt ordered those yet should order 9 instead of 5. This is my plan for my next led order. Up next is determining how many of the tiny bulbs are in all 4 door handles.
Update on this, I have the basic EVIC without the buttons in the middle (I think its "Homelink"?). When I popped open the evic to change the overhead bulbs I noticed mine has all 4 slots for bulbs but only isolates 2. Keep this in mind for anyone attempting the EVIC bulbs. I'm going to try very soon.

Re: An Introductory Guide To Upgrading Your WJ's Interior Lighting To LED

So I have gotten everything working. Expect the Sun visor Mirror lights. For some reason they won't light up. The normal ones work fine. But all 4 that I have will not work. Is there something i am missing?

Edit: so i guess they don't work very well when the car is off...
To that the glove box led flickers when the car is off.
Why is this?

Re: An Introductory Guide To Upgrading Your WJ's Interior Lighting To LED

ordered the dash lights and installed. two issues:

1) in the picture my fuel gauge has almost none luminosity to it. it's barely visible.
2) the needles are bright but everything else is dim.

any ideas on possible fixes? besides buying the brightest possible. I checked all connections and everything as well.

A completely different note I was installing my under hood light and as I was tryin
to get it off I accidentally hit the metal bell looking thing which caused a spark and now i cant get it to light up regular or new bulb. anyone have ideas?

Mine are, I just did a full swap on all the cluster LEDs using various #74 bulbs from superbrightleds - dimming still works, with narrow angle reds in all the status lights (ambers in the signal indics) and wide-angle reds for the five backlights.

Anyone got the HVAC and EDIC little-bitty-button lights figured yet? Also, am I the only one that is completely unable to get the #74's out of the HVAC bulb holders? Shattered one bulb, then ordered a bunch of bases from superbright, hoping they will work... since the base from the shattered one does not work with the LEDs (I think it wants a wider placement on the connectors than the LEDs have, but the gauge cluster didnt have an issue).

Which ones did you use? The 74-xHP or 74-xHP3 for the five backlights?

74-xHP3 for the backlights, figured I'd rather spend the money and brute force it than deal with any low illumination spots that might crop up. From your picture, it looks like the furthest bulb over isnt even on - tried rotating one of the known-to-work LEDs over to that spot, see if thats the issue?

Noticed a problem yesterday with my highbeam indicator LED not working, I dont know if its a polarity problem or bad bulb. Going to rip the gauge cluster back out tonight and monkey with it.

Last night I took the bulb and socket (I dunno what to call it) and switched it to a different spot and the dark spot followed the bulb. So either I have a bad bulb or a bad socket? I'll test which one it is tonight. I'll probably just order the HP3 cause it's still too dark for my personal preference.

For your status lights and indicators, did you use 74s as well? I know that they connect at a 45 degree angle and anything past it, they won't light up.
