Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Finally tracked down my bolts.Tony is gonna be so proud and I get to live another day! There sure is a big difference in the shoulder length. I just cant wrap my head around why Jeep would do this unless it was their wierd way of keeping the bolts from seizing to the bushing. I'm gonna never seize the hell out of them just to make sure.

Looks good, I still haven't picked mine up yet. I think I will swap them out when I take a look at whats squeaking in the rear.

Don't forget buddy, the upper sway link mount needs one too. Changed mine out today, replaced my front to rear brake line, bled the brakes and greased my sway cause I forgot. Still waiting on my front lines though.Went to fire it up and the batt was stone dead from the hatch, doors always being open. Hope I didn't ruin the thing it's almost new.

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Well I started on the front lines today only to find the hard line fittings I had soaked with blaster all this time are still gonna twist off Already snapped the rear one and repaired it when did the ss lines back there. I just said the hell with it and ordered all new hard lines from Jeep. I don't want to piece any more lines together. Surprisingly it wasn't that expensive. About $100 for every hard line on it. Now every piece of plumbing will be new from master cyl to calipers. Cheap insurance I guess since it's gonna be pulling a camper this year. Just going to be a pain to install that long front to rear one though. Do any of you guys know where you can buy Kroil in a store? It's about 10X better than Blaster.

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Seeing as I've been out of town and my brake system may never work again I've moved on to a couple things I wanted to save till last. First thing is the adjustable track bar. Added .5" eye to eye. Best guess but should be close for a little over 3" of lift.I wanted to wait but will dial this in as I go.

Also the spring retainment issue has been haunting me ever since I've started this project. So now that I have this down time I've decided to re engineer things a bit. IRO sells 5"spring retainer posts that always get knocked off because they are way too long and come into contact with the spring and are only threaded into glorified sheet metal. I have installed limit chains on the front but wanted a little extra insurance because there is no spring post left with the spacers installed. I welded a nut to the bottom of the upper spring perch and added a 2"spacer to the bottom of the original front spring perch. I used some old powerhouse 2.75" to .5" steel adapter for this.

Before:

After:

The most a short arm setup will droop below the upper spring post with a 2.5" spring is less than an inch before the lca's bottom out so 5" spring post extensions are pointless. If you run short shocks you wont even get that far and probably wont have to worry about this at all.

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Not really on topic but I wanted you all to see the replacement for the wife's '99 WJ.
Ta Da! 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Edition I affectionately refer to as the Big Fat Bug! This thing is Just plain fun to drive and has just about every option. Also more importantly a happy wife = happy Dave!

Also on my Jeep all new brake hard lines have been installed and as soon as my reworked Stopflex front brake hoses get here from NY I can actually drive this thing again. Starting to get excited. The end is near! I'm so tired of looking at it like this.

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Oh dear god what have you done! A silver PT and a WJ, you could stand in my garage and think you were home! Your wife's doesn't have silver flames on the sides though.....

Overall its been a decent vehicle for her too, its not bad to drive but every time I drive it I feel like I left my other 4 cylinders at home.

It's not a bad car, but maintenance wise there is very little fun to it. Given her history though I think my wife puts some sort of curse on cars, lol Oil changes and brakes are easy, but I had to pull the air intake box off to get to the battery. Her A/C also leaks refrigerant faster than it can be put in, but since she works from home now we haven't bothered to fix it yet. Also, the rubber section of the power steering pressure hose is cracked and while I do have a new hose, its quite a job to get to the pump end of it. I feel like they placed all the under hood components in a compactor to get them to fit in there, although a lot of newer cars are that way.

That said, it only stranded her once, the fuel pump went out suddenly but thankfully she had just turned onto our street, so I guess she wasn't exactly stranded lol. Best of luck with the PT, and like you said, a happy wife = a happy husband!

I have seen some disturbing visions when looking under that hood That's all I need cause I still haven't figured out where the power steering reservoir is on my '98 Bonneville in 2 years
