Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Well guys been doing some research for Part 2. We're going all in this time with a long arm setup. Gonna stay with the Bilsteins but sadly the Addco is probably gonna go. It's just not flex friendly at all. Gonna try it on the new setup but probably going to use the stocker with some good bushings I've narrowed it down to 2 systems so far. Rough Country Jeep Long Arm Suspension Lift Kit and IRO but it's not a rear long arm IRON ROCK OFF ROAD: WJ 4" Critical Path Long Arm Lift Kit If i go IRO I keep the lower LCA mounts but with the Rough Country deal they got to go so there's no going back. Scary shit right there but I really want a true long arm system front and rear and from IRO it will cost me an extra grand I don't have. Check out the links boys and girls and let me know what you think. Also remember there's gonna be a fire sale on all the take offs and unused new parts!

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

I like the idea of the rough country lift, the long arms for the rear make sense. Can't you get disconnects for the rear bar and keep the addco? Then you could keep it for better road performance and disconnect it when you need some serious flex. At least you can keep the bilseins, that will help some. Keeping the same tires/wheels?

P.S. prepare for some hate mail from my wife when my garage is suddenly full of your old jeep parts, I will try and make sure to scratch off the return address as soon as stuff arrives!

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever seen "disconnects" used on the rear sway bar. I know I have up front...I had them on my TJ. It would be kinda sweet if you could find a way to easily connect and disconnect the rear but be able to keep your addco instead of going back to the coat hanger. Someone has to make links that do this...right? I've known some guys to go without a rear sway at all, but I think they are nuts.

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Yeah guys I've looked into a rear disconnect to no avail but you can't run without both on the trail anyway because if you get on a side hill with no sways things will get ugly quick. Even went as far as checking into this overpriced contraption but nothing for a wj. http://store.jksmfg.com/merchant2/me...ar_Disconnects Just to show how tough the Addco is in this pic the limit strap on that side rear was just hanging there with over 3" of slack in it! No wonder they handle!

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

One thing I just thought of in the above pic though is the lower lca's might have bottomed out in the mounts. They can only droop so far before contacting metal to metal. Never thought to check that at the time. Maybe there's some hope for the Addco yet

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

I'd give it a shot! It's so easy to swap out the bar if you don't get enough flex with it you can easily remove it.

Re: Damn Jeep (Dave's pitiful suspension upgrade thread)

Part 2 coming soon peeps! This time around we're gutting everything and starting from scratch! We're going RC long arm. I promise there will be lots of cursing, crying, beer drinking,funny/stupid moments plus hopefully a little learning along the way I hope. At least we'll find out what not to do.
