front drive shaft removal?

My daughter has a 2000 grand cheerokee with full time AWD, is it possible to remove the front drive shaft to make it 2wd without any issues?

Re: front drive shaft removal?

Yes, that is possible. For what reason do you want to do it?

Re: front drive shaft removal?

Does this help with gas consumption? Or does it remain the same?

I never heard from someone who removed the shaft if it makes any difference. You remove some weight, which then doesnīt have to be rotated, so in theorie there should be less consumption, but i think it is so small that you almost wonīt see it. I did drive around for some time without the front prop shaft, when i was waiting for a new CV joint to come in, but i donīt remember any less consumption.
