help with Automatic Tension Assembly

Tension pulley bearing shot so need to replace, however local NAPA only sells whole Tension Assembly, which as tension pulley and idler pulley.

Problem is cannot get old assembly off, the bolt I believe is 13mm but I cannot get good grip and any time of pressure it feels like stripping bolt head. Bolt is recessed so cannot grab with lock channels or something.

First is assembly bolt normal righty tighty lefty loose, or reverse?
Second, what tool can I use to grab bolt head and get tight grip so I do not strip?

Thanks

Chuck

Re: help with Automatic Tension Assembly

I went to advanced auto, got just the tensioner pulley and replaced that alone, but noise is still there.

Can you listen to attached video and opine on where noise is coming from?

Also, in video look a tension assembly, it seems to have a bit of wobble - did not replace this part. Also almost sounds like coming from ac compressor.

Any ideas where it might comer from, would ac compressor make this noise internally or would it come from ac pulley?

Thanks

Re: help with Automatic Tension Assembly

Update - took sepentine belt off and ticking still there. I guess this means not from any pulley or a/c compressor. Could this rockers or lifters?

Re: help with Automatic Tension Assembly

I could just look at the video today. If the noise is the same with the serpentine belt off, than i would listen more carefully at each cylinder head cover. Could be a bad hydraulic valve lash adjuster. In cases like this a mechanics stethoscope could help in pinpointing the exact location.

Re: help with Automatic Tension Assembly

Thank you for looking. The sound is the same with Serpatine belt off. I am thinking its an exhaust leak but cannot seem to locate, gonna get dirty looking this weekend. I found some video online of exhaust leak from broken manifold bolt that has same ticking sound.

I will bring to my mechanic to see if he has stethoscope to try to pinpoint as you mention.
