Re: Long trip preparation

Based on my experience with friggin fuel filters on these friggin Jeeps...I would say HELL NO. If you want to do it, I'd tackle it afterwards...not before. The quick disconnects on the filter suck. Bad. A little too firm of a hand and you could find yourself Jeepless right before your trip. It's a straightforward job, but man was it a pain in the balls.

Re: Long trip preparation

Well...the OEM filter is "supposed" to be lifetime. Nowhere in the manual or maintenance schedule does it say that you should change it. Only if you experience a problem that would point to a potential fuel filter issue. I did it anyway....and cut my old one open. It really wasn't that bad inside, but I have seen others that are. I run a lot of fuel system cleaners and only use Shell or Sunoco gasolines, so I really didn't expect it to be bad. Unless you suspect a problem or just want to have a fresh filter, I'd agree with the dealer here...and that's pretty rare that I'd agree with them.

Re: Long trip preparation

Along with the tools, I always bring a first aid kit, phone charger, and I got a Wagan Battery Jumpstarter with Air Compressor from Wal Mart a while back that I keep in the back.
