Re: Power Steering Fluid
I want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this thread. After I posted it, I found several other threads concerning the same or simular issues with power steering fluid.
I went to our local dealer trying to purchase the MS-5931 fluid. They told me that it was no longer available. They looked at the specs per my 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland, they went to the manufacture service dept by phone and neither produced anything in regards to the numbers my manual suggested I use. So they suggested I use MS-10838 which is also a clear power steering fluid and so I bought 1 qt from them, this is Dellen Chrysler/Jeep in Greenfield, IN at $17.00. After I got home, I started looking on my own again. The first dealer I called was the oldest dealer in Indianapolis, IN. I did this hoping they might have an old dust covered qt on the shelf. WOW! no problem, they have it, MS-5931 in qts at $11.00 per.
I will take back the qt I purchased from Dellen and most likely will never use them again. So anyone needing the MS-9531 or part number 04883077 Power Steering Fluid, it is still available and at $11.00 per qt, that's not too bad. Per everything within all the threads concerning power steering fluid here at The Jeep Garage, I think it's very important to use the right stuff. Especially with the fluid driven fan, you don't want to have to replace all the steering parts just because you used to wrong fluid.
Thanks Again for all the tips and suggestions.
