Was thinking of wiring up a trans temp gauge before my silver lake trip..any thoughts on how or difficulty of doing it? I have a 2001 WJ 4.7L with the 545RFE tranny..thank you.
I'm planning on fitting one of these myself sometime soon, I'm just going to buy a gauge with all the sensor hardware and then mount it into the transmission pan and fit the gauge in a little pod on the a-pillar.
There is a temp sensor in the valve body of the tranny (used for the TRANS OVER-TEMP light) but I'm not sure how many (if any) gauges would work with that output.
Hmmm, as far as I was aware the Jeep comes with a trans cooler mounted in front of the main radiator. Might just be the V8s but I'm sure I read that somewhere before...
There is a trans cooler hidden inside the engine radiator. You can see 2 thin lines coming out of the radiator at the side of the fill opening and they go to the tranny. Its sometimes a good idea to install a second external trans cooler, especially for heavy towing. In front of the engine radiator there is the AC condenser and depending on the model also a smaller power steering cooler. (on my jeep the power steering cooler is one part with the AC conderser)
