Re: A "Carnival" of fun!

LOL...what does it matter? satin, flat, gloss? Who decided it has to be flat to be murdered?

Re: A "Carnival" of fun!

I think it's been an agree to disagree subject Scott. I've seen/read/participated in this debate so many times on this site.... I can see and agree with Ron though when he says "...but the whole point of calling something murdered is the risk. Murder, in short, is the riskiest crime. How risky have you been if you can't bring yourself to mar the gloss black stock paint?..."

It matters a great deal. Murdered is risk-stock or gloss paint jobs are not. Flat and Satin finishes require a much different and more diligent maintenance routine to keep clean/fresh. Murder=death, nothing glossy about it.

Not to mention that when the phrase was "coined" in the automotive world, EVERY single car was flat or satin. It wasn't until very recently that I EVER heard of a gloss paint job being called murdered.

That's how it started out. The ONLY reason gloss black is being accepted as murdered is far too many modders are not ballsy enough to take the final NECESSARY step, so they all ban together and whine until gloss black is accepted.

Re: A "Carnival" of fun!

hahaha. Scott it's like if someone tried to tell you "bloodied" meant something you didn't agree with I guess. Like I said though agree to disagree. That being said here's a site dedicated to "Murdered Out" rides. Some glossy some not http://www.murderedcars.com/

granted it's not completely murked, it's DAMN sexy!

lol. That was a bit of a rant, I guess. I obviously do though. Maybe because I am a huge fan of the theme, was there at the beginning, witnessed the evolution, and find it a little disturbing that someone would try to steal that thunder with a job half-done. I participated in Detroit area custom car shows for years. Murdered class was no gloss/chrome/polished aluminum. It was never disputed until recently.

Calling a gloss black car murdered, is like a gang-banger finding an already-dead body, popping a few caps in it, then claiming the hit for his street cred.

Thumbs up Re: A "Carnival" of fun!

lol. Thanks. It's really how I feel about it. I do like glossy blacked out cars, I just don't accept they're murdered.

But Scott is right, I get too passionate about things. I need to keep that in check. This is nowhere near as bad as how I feel about politics or the sorry state of our country though!

Re: A "Carnival" of fun!

This reminds me of when I was a teen and had my car in black prime when I couldn't afford to paint it, it was murdered and I didn't even know it! LOL! I was a pioneer!

And the minivan needs some bigger wheels........and some paint!

I know you're joking, and probably couldn't care less, but I', bored out of my mind at work(desk-warming season). Since blood is most often depicted as wet and shiny, I would say gloss is preferred. What I think is funny is, you having one of the first, and most prominent sanguinary rides out there, find yourself in the position to help define that style. I would honestly like to know your opinion.

Many of the old-time hot rodders (some of which featured regularly in the magazines of the time) that I hung out with during the first 20 years of my life, stopped at flat black primer thinking it looked really cool(and it did), Satin black paint was a natural progression as more guys wanted a bit more freedom driving their cars in inclement weather.
