Asking my US brothers..... what say you?

A good mate of mine just finished a trip to Texas and LA hunting down Ram's to import into Australia. He imports for a living, has been doing Jap stuff for years but is going back to include some US stuff now..

He's purchased three Rams this trip, one 1500 hemi and two 2500 Diesels. I told him I would kinda like one, and he reckon this is "me". LOL

http://www.boernedodgechryslerjeep.n...1d259c87d6.htm

What are your thoughts?

The only issue I have is PRICE! By the time we pay the import duty, taxes, complience costs, and CONVERT to RHD, this truck would owe close to $100k.
Australia - one of THE most expensive countries in the world to live.... we're taxed up the ass!

Re: Asking my US brothers..... what say you?

Why would you convert to RHD? Is it a law that the vehicle must be RHD or are you doing it because that is all you are used to? Keep it LHD and have both! Hell I'd love to have a RHD car just for the hell of it.

LOL, we are bound by law to convert to RHD..... the only vehicles that can get around it are "classic" cars, over 30 years old.

Can't get a diesel full size truck over there? Mean y'all aren't too far away from being Americans. V8 cars and the such :P

Re: Asking my US brothers..... what say you?

yeah wierd aint it.....

No we can't get a full size truck

No F trucks, Silverado's, or Rams come in via official channels. all are "grey " imports, ie, privately imported and converted.

Doesn't help that the US manufacturers don't make the things factory RHD

Re: Asking my US brothers..... what say you?

These are the largest "trucks" we can get..... both tough as nails, but both too commercially biased for my taste.

Toyota Landcruiser (nice V8 turbo diesel though)

Nissan Patrol Ute (piss poor engines, but otherwise good)

Well, I wouldn't be unique, but you certainly don't see US trucks every day. Heck, I rarely see a WK!

And a 3500 is just too big mate.

Re: Asking my US brothers..... what say you?

Well, no I don't neeeeed a truck, but they're good for towing stuff, like race cars

We have tax rules in Australia, one is called Fringe Benefit Tax. That means that a vehicle owned by a company, if used for even a small amount of private use, is heavily taxed.
Commercial vehicles (trucks or " heavy utes") are exempt from this tax.
Last financial year I paid nearly $6k in FBT just for the Jeep. Then there's the other vehicles that my reps drive, it ads up!

That's the main reason I'm looking at trucks now, plus they're rare here, so kinda 'cool", and good tow vehicles. Ultimately I'd like the 6.7 diesel in the 1500 chassis, but they don't make that The 2500 is just so enormous, as is seen as a bit of a penis extension. lol
