Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

That is a bit harsh Scott. For those with three or more kids, it isn't really a bad option. I think the Durango is a POS to be honest. Even the R/T is nowhere near as sporty as the Ex and add to that the fact it is only AWD and the Ex wins in a landslide (I know the Ex is AWD as well even though it is branded 4WD). If the GC had a third row option, it would be a no brainer to steer clear of the Ex Sport.

With this all being said, Ford really dropped the ball with MyFord Touch. The system is terrible.

The MFT system is perfectly fine if you are smart enough to work it. I had no problem figuring out how to do stuff.
Give it time You just purcahsed it. The system is faulty and everyone on the Ford forums cannot stand it. Constantly complaining about it to the ford reps on the forums.

The system after some time seems to have issues with freezing up and causing all sorts of user issues. People are constanly doing master resets, pulling fuses, etc.

Good news is that I had a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo X with the Hemi (28000 miles) and the dealer gave me $29,100 as a trade. I did not expect to get that much but he said he really wants the Jeep now that the weather is bad here in Pittsburgh.

I will definitely miss the off-road ability of the Jeep but will not miss the dealers or all of the annoying little issues I had with mine. Hopefully I have better luck with the Ford.

Wow, you really traded down, you think jeep is bad? ford explorers have always been junk, past and present. The dealer really wanted your jeep because he found another sucker to buy a pos ford.

No way is that Explorer nicer than my Overland.

I'm just busting balls with the soccer mom/dad comment. You're a Pittsburgh guy, so I'm sure you can handle a little ribbing.

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

Congrats, hope you enjoy it 77!

I would've more strongly considered the new Explorer if the inflatable seatbelts were available in the front seats too. But they aren't yet (only in the rear), and the base Explorer trim has no seat height adjustment and no inflatable seatbelts in the rear (you need the XLT trim minimum and the inflatable belts are a paid option). So couple that with the larger size and third row that I don't need, me liking the look of the GC better, and a few other factors, I didn't bother test driving it.

My next car will have inflatable seatbelts front and rear for sure. In fact, most likely they'll be standard or at the very least available as an option on most new cars within the next 10 years.

I love that Ford is doing this and wish they or someone else did it sooner. Apparently it was in the works for 10 years. The technology is almost a no-brainer; that being said, IIHS hasn't tested them yet I don't think, so it'll be interesting to see what their real-world performance looks like when they do.

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

When evaluating my options, one of my choices was the Explorer. It was BIG! Also, no panoramic sunroof (maybe that has changed since). I did like that it is now built on a uni-body base, rather than chassis-on-frame. The sound quality of the MFT was on par with the Harmon-Becker MyGig (Bluetooth phone calls). Ride was smooth and quiet.

In the end, I liked the size/features of the Overland better (off-roading was never a consideration). Of course, after being on this forum for a year, beach-running is beginning to sound fun....

Good luck with your new vehicle. If it matches your needs, you should enjoy it.

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

My wife loved my JGCO and we were going to get a new one for her... Then she drove an edge and fell in love with it. Now we have a 2011 hemi overland and a 2013 edge limited. I still think my jeep is superior in feel and capability but she prefers the car like feel of the edge. Different strokes for different folks. As for the navigation and connectivity the edge is superior to my jeep but its also two years newer. At least both are American made.
