This is probably why the new EXx Sport appeals to a lot of folks. You can fit MORE kids/equipment and it is the fastest 7 passenger out there I believe.
So a fast van it is.

If you told me those criteria I would assume it was a van you were purchasing not an SUV. I'm sure its a nice vehicle but I don't see a van in ford's line up and the new explorer seems to have filled that roll. As someone who has purchased a new Explorer could you enlighten me? Can we just call it a fast van?
It doesn't look awful (actually it looks pretty nice in my opinion) or anything like a minivan, it doesn't have a sliding door, has AWD, can tow up to 5K pounds (not less than unless you choose the 2L 4 cylinder), only has an inch less ground clearance than a JGC (without the air suspension)...

Just because an SUV/crossover isn't built to be an off-roader doesn't automatically make it a minivan.

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

Feature for feature as mentioned above sounds decent for what you are looking for...but for that price, an Overland with a real 4x4 system, quadra-lift and a much nicer interior sets the JGC far above the Explorer Sport.

Whats the reliability like on those twin turbos anyways?

I had the real 4x4 in my Jeep but didn't really use it and like i said I have numerous off road toys to satisfy my craving for the dirt. The Explorer is a better road SUV (not minivan like some other people say ) than the Jeep is.

Interior is opinion. I like the Ford because I always had Fords, the Jeep's is very nice though.

Reliability, no idea. I will keep it a few years, get bored, and get something else. Don't care about long term reliability

twin turbo v6
tows 5000
7.6 inch clearance

I am not a fan of the FWD either but have to give something up somewhere.

Yes, it is not an offroad SUV but that is not what I wanted.

But you can call it a van, but it would suck to lose a stoplight race to a van in a big bad Hemi though.

Good luck with the new ride. I hear those motors are wicked with a tune.

Good news is that I had a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo X with the Hemi (28000 miles) and the dealer gave me $29,100 as a trade. I did not expect to get that much but he said he really wants the Jeep now that the weather is bad here in Pittsburgh.

I will definitely miss the off-road ability of the Jeep but will not miss the dealers or all of the annoying little issues I had with mine. Hopefully I have better luck with the Ford.
My husband and I have been talking about getting an explorer we both like the limited with 4wheel drive and the safety package.
We have one child and are pregnant with our next and my in-laws come to visit quite a bit since we moved and was curious as to how the third row is on size.

Lets put a 20 foot boat behind that big boy and then see who is first to 60. TBH the only thing that bothers me about the new Explorer is the FWD bias and not having low range. It's a nice rig, though. Congrats!

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

Dude, don't listen to the people calling it a "van". These are probably the same people cramming a bunch of kids into a cramped, 5 passenger GC instead of getting a minivan for the comfort of all their BeBe's Kids.
