It's not a van without a sliding door. If you plan to buy a ford be sure to request vehicle info from ford.com as they will send you a voucher for $750 customer cash. It takes about two weeks to get the packet. Worth the wait!

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

Congrats on the new Explorer. The Sports are damn fine rides, and that EcoBoost engine is a true gem. I too really liked the interior of the Explorer, it's much more comfortable than the Jeep IMO (the seats are super soft like they're made out of memory foam or something), but do feel like the materials in my Overland were a little nicer (mainly the leather dash).

Ford's SYNC and MFT are decades beyond what Chrysler has now or in the pipeline. Simply marvelous pieces of technology that make everything else look like an etch-a-sketch compared to a tablet computer.

Be careful for any Mercedes R63 or GL63s, as they're the only 7 passenger SUVs on the market anywhere close to as fast as that thing.

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

The Explorer is a very nice vehicle. We looked at it extensively before we got the Jeep. Its BIG, if you need the third row (our next vehicle will have three rows, its nice to have if you need it) its a better offering than the Durango IMHO.

Stylewise I think the Jeep is much better looking. I like the layout and feel of the interior better too. The Explorer has a lot of toys, but at $47k you're in an Overland Summit, the interior of the Explorer doesn't compare to the real wood, nappa leather, leather dash etc in the Overland. My wife and I also much prefer the driving position and overall drive of the Jeep.

I could see us in an Explorer next time though.

Re: Bought a new vehicle over the weekend

I had looked at the Explorer when it came out. I though the interior looked much cheaper than the Overland and the vehicle overall reminded me of a minivan. The only ecoboost engine in the explorer is that 2.0 which from what I hear does nothing put make noise. You should have taken a look at the Grand Caravan if that was the type of vehicle you were in the market for and then you could have really said that you had a Dodge.

The Sport has the 3.5L Ecoboost from the SHO. It does more than make noise.

Actually, the little 2.0L Ecoboost isn't half bad. It feels a little weaker than the Duratec 35, but that feels stronger than its output would indicate. It's a hoot in the Escape.

Turbos or not, you bought a V6, You realize this means I win........LOL!!!
Ford makes a good product. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Congrats on the new ride.

You know the irony here is I had a 2003 Ford Explorer that I pulled the crappy V6 out and dropped in a Kenny Bell supercharged V8. I took it to our local drag and pulled a 12.7 with it's first run. I have a video of it around somewhere. It was posted on You tube a long time ago. I don't know if it's still up or not.

Ford explorer blew up in my neighbors driveway, melted off the side of my house(my house was sided in vinyl a few years ago, otherwise it would've burnt down). Better luck to you.
