Re: Explorer Sports now being delivered (photos)

I'm impressed with it looks wise. It blows the Durango R/T out of the water performance wise AND fuel economy wise, and it's significantly cheaper than anything else with 3 rows that is remotely performance oriented.

I think it's a nice truck. If I needed a 3 row vehicle, I'd consider it.

I can't believe the lettering on the hood doesn't line up!

Check out the performance letters on the Flex Ecoboost. They blow the Durango R/T out of the water, they run mid 14s. The Explorer is essentially a smaller, lighter product that is otherwise VERY similar to the Flex.

I'm sure we will see some actual numbers by the car mags soon. But don't be surprised to see this thing be VERY fast in the 1/4. I bet it will be a little closer 0-60.

FWIW, The Durango R/T is still what I'd get, because of the sound, and the fact that you can get them for right around $30k.

And with the hood lettering... It's an american car made by UAW workers, what did you expect? The Durango has a front bumper that will never sit flush. It's just one of those things when your workers have no consequences for doing a bad job.

Commercials are great and all, but the Flex (read: heavier Explorer) with the Ecoboost is frickin fast.

You tube is GREAt and all...but dont compare MODDED vehicles to stock. No dummy here at this keyboard. That Flex is running a tune and no telling what else......

lets compare apples to apples here. So a Flex can run a 14.8 1/4....that has nothing to do with an explorer. lets see the explorer 1/4 mile times and then we can talk. Not saying it wont be faster....and I really dont care...cause the Durango is 2x the vehicle to ford is.

Re: Explorer Sports now being delivered (photos)

14.23 stock. So an Explorer being lighter will likely be 14 flat stock.

Give it some time, there will be 1/4 tests of it. And it will blow the Durango R/T out of the water.

Outside of that, the Durango has an advantage in towing. Other than that, they're very close. The Explorer has better interior tech stuff, but honestly the MFT isn't that big of a deal that I'd consider it an upgrade over the 430N. Sure the screen is bigger, and you can adjust a lot of stuff through it, but I'd just as soon have buttons to adjust my AC thank you.

There's no doubt that the Durango R/T is the better value. You're talking a 10-15k difference in price, that's just a huge sum of money to overlook for the same vehicle, in the name of speed in a 3 row vehicle.

FWIW, the Explorer Sport will likely be the 2nd fastest 3 row SUV on the market, bested only by the GL63. Pretty impressive for a Ford to be besting the GL550 (the "near GL55"), and being second only to a $140k AMG.

Maybe SRT should take a look at how it's done before they release the 2014 SRT8 and come up with something that's a world beater again.

Re: Explorer Sports now being delivered (photos)

viking - stop posting vids about the crappy explorer with their terrible NA V6. Yes, that thing is terribly underpowered. I test drove it along with the Durango R/T and there was no comparison. The R/T is a far better vehicle. BUT, with the V6 Eccoboost this thing is going to be a quick SUV, AND that engine is easily modded (just search youtube for the modded Taurus SHO walking the Jeep SRT8).

The Explorer Sport will easily outperform the Durango R/T. You will see this once the true numbers come out. Again, no where near a GC SRT8, but a nice product for those needing 3 rows. I am a Jeep guy and would love to have a 3 row perfomance jeep, but if I have to have 3 rows, the Ex is certainly an option.

Shoot, I went and bought a damn 2011 Grand Caravan R/T cause I needed more room for 3 kids, but while it is a nice looking van, it is still a van. AND, the transmission clunks like a mofo! Man I miss my 06 GC SRT
