Fake SRT's

Today I saw my first fake SRT. It made me mad for some reason. I know, I know, it's 2015 where we are supposed to be nice to everyone because everybody has feelings and everyone gets a trophy because they're all winners. While I personally feel like that's all BS, what's the point of trying to make people believe your V6 is an SRT. Don't they know the ones who know even the slightest about SRTs or own an SRT, will know you're fake? I guess it's frustrating because I worked my a$$ of to get my SRT, not to be knocked off by some thug pretending to have one. I wish I could've taken a picture (I was driving)... The logo on the back was too high up, wrong wheels and calipers, SRT emblems on both sides (I guess to make sure everyone sees his "SRT") To each their own I suppose. Has anyone else seen seen this, what are your thoughts? Trophy's for everyone, or is my rant legitimate?

Re: Fake SRT's

Why does your profile show 2014 5.7 WK2 if you have an SRT?

Don't let it bother you, let the idiots be idiots. Like you said, people in the know can spot the fakers.

Reminds me of a guy at work back in the eighties who had a VW Scirroco with a "Turbo" emblem. I asked him if it had a turbo and his reply was.
"NO But I want one"

Re: Fake SRT's

I've seen posts of people who have gone to the extreme changing out or adding parts to create the look simply because they want it but can't afford the real deal.

But kbre is right people do what they do. Free country.

My only issue would be if they tried to race someone off the line and loose the other driver is going to "think" he beat an SRT.

Re: Fake SRT's

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. My profile says 5.7 Overland because that's what I had first... I did several upgrades on it because I wanted to make it as quick as the SRT but stopped short of adding a supercharger. I convinced my wife to take it so that I could get the SRT.... I had to drive 680 miles to Dallas to get it but haven't regretted it since! I understand it's a free country, I'm a soldier. I just was frustrated that this guy was trying to pass his off as one when it clearly wasn't... I race at the local drag strip and I've had my share of losses but it's like you said... Someone will race this guy and feel like they beat an SRT when that's truly not the case... Giving the appearance that SRTs are garbage. My profile picture is the SRT I got two months ago.

Re: Fake SRT's

Doesn't really bother me what people do to their vehicles. These sites are all about people modding their vehicle to make it look like something else. Definitely no shortage of people wanting to look like an SRT or an Altitude or more chrome to look like a Summit. Changing their emblems/wheels/whatever...it's why we're here. That and to point and laugh at some of them.

It happens with all makes. It's rampant down here Mustangs, Camaros, Benz, BMW's, pretty much everyone trying to make their own little unique auto. Of course some are a bit more successful than others but whatever works for them.

Another way to look at it would be that if someone with an "SRT appearance kit" gets their doors blown off, the victor would be dog meat should a real one show up.

I take it you've never seen a Pontiac Fiero based "Ferrari", nor a 959 created from a 911T or E.

i badged my v6 as an srt. but its also denoted as a 6, as in srt-6. ive got the srt suspension, wheels and exhaust in it. i do not howeve,r have the body kit as i realize it is just a v6. its shouldnt make you mad that someone is doing something unique to there ride.

i also see a lot of potential in the RWD V6 WK platform, its 600 pounds lighter then the WK1 srt and the engine is further back promoting a better weight balance. as it stands now, i will hang with a stock 5.7 of the same year.

mines also no joke. ive got 2 friends who own srts and they dont give me crap about it eighter, they know im quick.

that said, im military too, Army. what branch are you bud? good to meet another service member who's a jeep owner too!

Re: Fake SRT's

I find it immature to throw badges on your car trying to pass it off as something it's not.

That being said I added a Ws6 badge to my Firebird Formula even though it wasn't a Ws6. In hindsight I see it was immature and wouldn't do it again.
I think it's ok to add the appearance parts just don't add the badge or claim it is what it isn't.

Jeff ... either you have good friends or they say it behind you back.

Strongjeff, nice to meet you as well. I'm also in the Army, getting ready to go back to JBLM for what could be my last assignment, then retire. If you haven't been stationed at Bliss yet... Don't. Hahaha. There's nothing wrong with being unique, I put a lot of work into my wife's 5.7... I wanted it to be stronger and faster, I realized if I had added the supercharger to it... I would still need to change the tires, breaks, suspension... I just realized that instead of trying to turn mine into an SRT, I needed to suck it up and get the SRT itself. I enjoy it... But nothing is ever enough, I've already had Hemifever tune it, changed a portion of the exhaust out, changed the intake and ordered an 87mm throttle body last week. Now I'm back at the idea of adding a RIPP supercharger... To the SRT this time.

Did you even read my post? I badged it as a 6. It's got srt components under it. Therefore I'm not passing it off as something it's not.

As for my friends being good ones or not, how do you think I got a complete srt catback for 200 bucks? And it is in great shape. Both these guys are army. One even let me leave my stuff at his place so it wasn't in the back of my jeep for a month. I say that's good friends.

Not being immature here, more unique then anything

SRTgirl, you're right. Personally I think Chrysler short changed the Altitude! It's a very sharp looking Jeep... Just needs a few upgrades similar to the Overland and up. Every time I see one from a distance I think it's an SRT.
