No offense, but it looks nothing like a Buick Enclave. I think the Enclave's look pretty good. Much better than the new X5.

not_too_shabby has a brilliant future
It seems BMW has lost their way in terms of design. Some of it may be due to the European pedestrian impact tests. The old X5 for Europe had an ugly front end too.

I said the performance was much alike, not the engines were alike. In other words when you want it to go and push the loud pedal the thrust feels pretty similar with my butt telling me the advantage goes to the X5 but I've not looked at the objective numbers. I have driven the 335i and the X5 and while the engine does retain its general character somewhat the weight of the X5 impacts its performance a great deal comparatively. The 335i felt quick at all times but the X5 does not and like the jeep I would not use the word quick to describe the power, I would say adequate.

I'm not against BMW, I have one in the driveway and have owned several over the years. Like others though I do believe that in the effort to appeal across a broader spectrum the cars have lost some of what made them good in the first place. When you cross this with the fact some American cars are now competing not just on value but actual innate goodness I think all the luxury marks have run into a bit of a problem where those two intersect. I am a German car buyer over the years and when I shop for a car in this segment the jeep looks to me like the best overall car for my needs without ever considering cost or its relative value. I think there are buyers for the X5 but its by any measure a tough segment and the BMW just isn't compelling compared to the alternatives IMO

While I agree with most that you say, I still hold firm that the 35i is far quicker than the Pentastar. 0-60 the X5 is roughly 6.4, which I'm sure makes it quicker than the GC with a 5.7 Hemi. The Pentastars numbers to 60 are very similar to a 4Runner with the aging 5 speed transmission and 270hp.

Problem is only the Range Rover Sport has the off road capability to go with the on road performance.

Re: First Impression 2014 BMW X5

I like the X5 looks quite nice in person.. Quite aggressive from the rear

Here's a video I found comparing it against the Jeep GC and Mercedes-Benz ML, Its in German though guys The Jeep looks really nice in this video and still prefer it to BMW

Re: First Impression 2014 BMW X5

I personally like the looks of the new X5, but your opinion is shared by many. A lot of people prefer the previous X5.

I think the new one is MUCH improved inside from the old X5. I have a coworker who has the previous version, and I find nothing about the interior appealing. The new one is very, very nice. They're expensive though...optioned in any real way they're over $60k quick. Thats Range Rover Sport money, which I'd rather have.

And he now has his son on the show. John Davis must be an alumni of the Mike Shanahan School of Offspring Management and majored in how to get your spawn a job so he can move out of the house.
