How Could Volkswagen Be So Stupid ??

VW facing 'tsunami' of legal trouble in emissions scandal#

This is going to be monumental, and could cost them tens of billions of dollars. Say what you will about BP and the whole Deepwater Horizon deal. But the fact remains it was an accident. Preventable perhaps, but an accident none the less.

VW's top brass had to deliberately gather, sit down, discuss and approve all of this. Money had to be allocated. Then someone had to engineer it, produce it, (the software), and they had to install and test it. How could they possibly think at some point in all of this, they wouldn't be caught? It's insane. Their Diesel's were among their best selling vehicles. God only knows when, or even IF they'll be able to sell them again.

This is going to hit them 3 fold. First off there will be $ BILLIONS in fines from the EPA, and God knows from who else. As this whole deal was a world wide conspiracy for them that lasted YEARS. Then, there is going to be a massive recall that will cost them millions, or possibly billions more. Then, there will for sure be a massive class action suit from angry customers who's cars will be failing emissions tests all over the world. Not to mention when they get them back, (assuming VW corrects them), they'll be p!ssed as hell because they'll perform like crap after the detuning. They'll win the law suit because they were so obviously deceived and defrauded.

No matter how you look at this, it has to go down as one of the most defining, Darwin moments in business history..... And they made a conscious decision to do it to themselves. Unbelievable.

Re: How Could Volkswagen Be So Stupid ??

My husband and I both drive TDi's involved. We love the cars and had 2 TDi's prior, awesome fuel mileage. I drove from Charlotte, NC to St. Augustine, FL and still had 125 miles left to go on the tank. VW will be in court in Oct and hopefully the buy back program will start by the end of the year. We will get what the cars were worth as of Sept. 2015 plus extra compensation, but they are going to ding us on mileage so every day we drive them we loose money. My husband will be getting a 4 door full cab Chevy Silverado and me a Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, I can hardly wait!
