Re: My dealer says yes!

yeah....and a rear bed thats virtually useless.....IE. Honda truck, ford sporttrack etc. You need to drive a new F150, Chevy 1500 or dodge ram before you go bashing something you know nothing about. Your thinking of a 1985 F150......

Re: My dealer says yes!

haha, Scott's fired up

I've driven a mate's 2009 Ram SRT10, does that count? I'm assuming that would be near the pinnacle? lol..... I'll stand by my assessment mate I know American's are very patriotic, much like many Australians re their Holdnes and Aussie designed Fords

All I'm saying is that to me this is a good compromise vehicle for us that dont want or need an enormous full size truck, ie, a WK sized truck, instead of a Escalade sized SUV Got me?

Like, I rarely have anyone in the back of my Jeep, heck, I HATE letting anyone in there because the rear seat packagingand comfort is the WORST. I also get annoyed having to baby my cargo compartment with towels etc to avoid scratching it, as it's always full of race car stuff.
So for me, this DESIGN and SIZE of vehicle would be good, and if it could still tow 8000lbs like the normal Toureg, then even better

Re: My dealer says yes!

I didn't mean to offend any Americans, but you guys DO live in a little bit of a "bubble" when it comes to vehicle quality.
You see, over here we've been exposed to US, european AND japanese cars longer than any other western country, and hence we haven't really devoped a lean to any country of origin, merely a lean toward good product.

So effectively, while NOT a super heavy duty truck, it's not meant to be, but I would expect it to drive very nicely. A good compromise I think.

Of course, this is just a ute version of a Toureg with a longer wheelbase. The V10 is already available in the Toureg

I'm with Scott, I've driven an '09 F150 Crew Cab King Ranch 4x4, and not only did it easily drive smoother and handle better than my WK (2wd), the interior easily rivals that of any German luxury SUV I have ever seen, easily!

And I've driven a Cayenne (I'm assuming it is similar to the Toureg), actually 3 (different trim levels), and they were all garbage in my opinion. Not a very comfortable ride at all.

This vehicle could be different and I'm sure it is, but (at least here) it just isn't worth the extra cost.

At the end of the day, it comes down to subjective opinion and no one can tell what you like. To each its own.

Re: My dealer says yes!

Even Americans are waking up..... 15 years ago Toyata was scared to introduce a full-size pickup, deliberatly underpowering their new Tacoma with a puny V6..... once the Americans realised how much nicer it was to drive, they began demanding more power... they gave it a V8 version, opening the flood goates for a raft of Japanese full size trucks.

Around the same time the Honda Accord took over from the Taurus as America's biggest selling passenger car.... and Amwerican's have shunned US designed cars ever since....

so Scott, maybe I do actually know a little bit mate

You make a good point, if the vehicle fits your needs, then it fits your needs. There can't be an argument against that.

Re: My dealer says yes!

Effectively I'm trying to say that slowly but surely, he typical american is acquiring a more "universal" taste in vehicles. And yes Matt, Cayenne's in my eyes are garbage (even though they share LOTS with a Toureg), interior especially as it's bespoke Porsche. I don't think the ride is too bad though, but Australia DOES get a unique suspension tune.

See, this is what I mean by "bubble". You're vehicle market is highly protected by artificially high import taxes on overseas vehicles, which effectively makes your home-grown trucks more attractive price-wise.

Over here, a 2010 F150 is the same price as (for instance), a new Cayenne S........ they're both taxed the same, nothing artificial..... hence, we see it differently.

Exactly what I was trying to get across... a lot of Americans probably unfairly hold something against "foreign" cars because of the higher cost.
