Re: No more Jeep

No raise 2 years ago, very minimal raise last year. Wife ain't making as much. Cost of living going up up up... So yeah, saving $250 a month on gas, plus riding the HOV lane was hard to pass up. When shopping around we looked at Jetta, Sonata Hybrid, Focus. In the end, if I'm going to buy a car to save money, might as well go all the way.

Guess I'll have to prove my manhood in other ways.

Re: No more Jeep

LOL....it takes a real man to admit to trading down to a Prius on a Jeep forum. You gave the reasons and it sounds like a good decision for you.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
That's bill shit hybrids get HOV lane use. Defeats the whole purpose of an HOV lane. I've seen signs in Atlanta that says fuel efficient vehicles can use the HOV lane or something like that. What state you in OP?

Re: No more Jeep

$75 in fuel for 4 days!?!?

I can't blame you for getting a Hybrid, athough the company car I was driving the past few days with a 2ltr diesel achieved 60MPG on a run I did this week. 850 miles out of a full tank, also quiet and refined for a diesel - they sure have come along way.

Weird how diesel has never gotten popular for family cars in the US.

EDIT: forgot to say congrats on the new car!! I heard the newer versions have substantially better handling and the interior does look a nice place to be. You got the best color too!

I appreciate the open mindedness. TBH I've been posting on a Prius specific forum, and nobody is anywhere near as cool as the people on Jeep Garage.

Probably should mention, highway MPG means nothing to me. HOV lane only covers half of my commute, so the other half I still sit in bumper to bumper traffic most days, and sometimes even the HOV lane is slow. Most days I average under 30MPH for the drive.
I was getting 13-14 MPG in the Jeep. I'm now pushing over 60mpg often, never below 50+. Commute from Queens NY out to Syosset Long Island.

As for the interior, yeah it's not bad, way better than the Nissan Sentra I used to drive, what torture that car was. Love having a radio that connects to the internet for stuff. A lot roomier than she looks from the outside.

Oh my I know where you're at we probably passed each other before I did the Staten Island to Babylon trek for years. That traffic is definitely tough I'm sure 50-60 MPG makes it feel better. Good luck with your new baby!

I'm on two Mercedes Benz forums and feel the same, I also love the layout of this site. Guess just need to spend a bit of time on there and get to know the regulars etc.

That was after I filled up, then drove home. I'm averaging 422 miles per fill up, usually a little over 8 gallons each fill out of a 9.5 gallon tank. Here's my car on Fuelly.com.

I'm a huge fan of as many buttons on my steering wheel as possible

It's so nice never having to take my keys out of my pocket. Didn't think I was going to be that into it, but it's so awesome just putting my hand on the door and it unlocking, pushing the start button, then just tapping on the handle to lock it when I get out.
