Re: SRT vs X5 vs Range Rover Sport

When I see a RR, I can't help but think it's one of the people that feels the need for status, because I've been in 2014's for all the above mentioned vehicles, add in a Mercedes ML63 AMG and the SRT isn't as polished in some areas as others, but bang for the buck wise, in my opinion, it kill the others.

Mercedes has 518hp yet it's 0-60 time is 4.7? umm.. yeah, sign me up. (joking)

I don't need the affirmation of richies, and most people I see driving RR's look like the form is shoved so far up their ass.. so I'm fine with an SRT. It's a meat and potatoes kind of ride, and I'm fine with that. I smile as I'm passing the 911, the RR, the AMG.. list goes on.

I wish you luck with your RR, but from your list above that you posted, hell if I grasp why you'd buy a RR, especially with their track record. Only thing I can guess is your wife needed/wanted the status symbol, or you did. Best of luck, no offense meant.. just trying to make sense of why anyone with sound mind would go RR

Re: SRT vs X5 vs Range Rover Sport

I too am in the market for an up-market SUV, and I'll be purchasing around September this year.

I'm sure that we've all looked at the other car manufacturers in the segment, from time to time, but to post here on a JEEP Forum a justification why you went with the RR is bewildering.

Surely you were prepared to receive some "flack" from here. And after taking delivery of the RR why on earth would you want to continue to visit this JEEP forum? Surely a RR Forum would be more beneficial as a RR owner.

Anyhow in my research I did consider the BMW and the RR. The RR does absolutely nothing for me; so I quickly dumped that idea. I'll probably go with the JEEP as the overpriced options that BMW demand just to get it to the level of JEEP's standard equipment are ridiculous.

I believe your post should have been posted on the RR forum. You would've gotten plenty of accolades for your decision over there. Good luck.

Wow. Now I know why my post was moved to Siberia. I expected disagreement, not complete ignorance. You may have noticed I am a GC owner and long-time member. I found the forum lacking in good comparos. I apologize for the attempt to help others with a similar decision and for praising the value I got from this forum. While some may disagree with my conclusion, few would disagree with my observations. Thanks for solidifying my decision.

Re: SRT vs X5 vs Range Rover Sport

As far as i am concerned you could have said this:

"I wanted new go faster SUV - SRT, X5 or RR.
I like the RR more, buying that."

That is all that matters, you like one more than the others.

I sat in the new RR today at the dealership I'm doing photography for. The RR for sure has much better materials than our Jeeps although it should considering how much more it costs. The dash was a little busy but it had very nice quality to everything but once again it goes back to the pricing. The SRT jeep is hands down the best sporty SUV for the money. Is it the best quality? No I think BMW and Land Rover both use better quality leathers and parts. But the SRT has sold record numbers this year which obviously shows many more people are choosing them over the competition than recent years. I think SRT sold way more than they expected considering they have literally no spare parts for the 2014s even a year after being in production.

I love my SRT and am very happy I chose it. Only complaints I have is that these cars are way nicer than the dealership treats the people who purchased them. They are making way nicer vehicles and have not trained their dealerships and service centers to treat us like we bought a 70k vehicle. That a will all come eventually but it is for sure something that Chrysler and jeep need to work on. Also taking 4 months to get two rear shocks on a 70k vehicle is a complete embarrassment but I finally got them in tonight. I hope getting those installed next week will bring a big smile back to my face like I had every time I got in my SRT before the shocks went out, it's been a long and shitty 4 months lol.

That's EXACTLY what the dealers want you to think.

I would be willing to bet that if indeed you went back to the dealer after 3-4 months they would sing a different tune. They would certainly have to make up the depreciated difference "somewhere".

If it does indeed have "quality materials and workmanship", why do they have one of the worst reliability/repair records in the industry?

No need to apologize, I always enjoy reading opinions and observations comparing different vehicles in the marketplace and appreciate you taking the time to post.

Re: SRT vs X5 vs Range Rover Sport

Thanks for the reviews and lets not diss him, this guy is a valued forum member and is posting his comparo. Making rude comments because he chose another make only makes the commenter look dumb, right ? Many change car brands often throughout their lives and there are those that stick with one make for loyalty, without trying others. I am the former and want know what else is out there, or else I am the one missing out.

I just sat in the 2014 SRT and the new 2015 X5 at the Chicago Auto Show, since I was considering getting a 2014 SRT now, but after sitting in them yesterday will wait and test drive the X first. The SRT interior is high quality, but seats are a bit firm for long trips, which I take often. In comparison the X5 felt much nicer, with more comfortable seats in a significantly upgraded interior compared to last years, no bland plastics found. They said the twin turbo 4.4 has been redone with new cylinder heads, larger intercoolers, twin wet sump oil pumps, revised valvetronic, etc.. although no power estimates given yet. The SRT is undoubtedly a better bargain, but takes a backseat to the Bavarian's nicer interior, and much better ride and handling.

Sorry...I've driven every one of these vehicles and I just don't see where they are nicer. I guess everyone has their own opinion. But the cockpits are way overdone with multiple finishes and weird color combos. Plus way too many buttons. You need to be an f22 pilot to drive one. I just don't see the value. I like the looks on the exterior...just don't see where they are 25-30 more than anything

I appreciate you sharing the information. I'm guessing a lot of people cross shop these and it is helpful to have the insight of others who have considered the options. Thank you for taking the time to do this, and thanks for the good words toward the forum.

Agree. Especially from guys who otherwise represent the forum so well. Represent with respect. No need to be rude and harsh with a poster who is trying to share info respectfully.

Re: SRT vs X5 vs Range Rover Sport

Well I've got a 2012 Overland that I plan to get rid of in a few months.

I also care far more about actual performance then perceived status.

Currently the RRS is at the top of my list.

I really, really like the WK2 SRT. But I'm here in SoCal and I need to know my vehicle at least has a chance of getting me home if an earthquake hits & damages roads. So Off-Road ability is HIGH on my list. I also like to go FAST on roads and want something with better street performance then my current 2012 WK2.

Currently the only SUVs offering great performance in BOTH arenas are the Porsche Cayenne and the Range Rover Sport. Both are darn fast on-road while maintaining some off-road ability (especially with Air-Suspensions to get over obstacles). The Porsche is insanely over-priced and not really an option.
