Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

the SRT jeep will NEVER be offroad capable. It is street and racing technology....not street, trail and racing technology.

BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show me RR SC owners and Cayenne turbo owners taking their rigs offroad wiht those 20-22" wheels on a regular basis. Anyone with a brain knows better than that.

It's not a matter of "standards". It's a matter of capability.

Yes, I know that. My point was and is that combining Onroad and Offroad technology is possible. Porsche and Land Rover both manage to do it.

The same could be said of most WK2 Overland and/or Summit users!

It isn't about who actually uses and of these features and abilities. It's about whether the vehicle is capable of doing it.

I'm not saying the WK2 SRT isn't a damn fine vehicle. It is GREAT Onroad. But it just isn't in the same class feature-wise as the Cayenne or RR Sport since it has NO offroad ability.

Agreed. I honestly don't see why, with the Quadra-Lift it would be impossible to produce a factory SRTrail GC. That, plus some quick disconnects for the aero add-ons would allow it to go on stilts for the trails and lower down for the street.

Wonder why it isn't already being done, not that a Cayenne is half the off road vehicle of a Limited or Overland with OR-II packages...

Tires, you can get big ones in OR sizes...

Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

its not being done because its a stupid idea theres no need for an SRT to go off road. no one in the world is gonna buy a porsche or a RR and go off roading with it ripping it through mud and climb rocks.

Dude, drove the Porsche Cayenne.... it got stuck in the wet grass in the back yard and we pulled it out with wrangler.

And drive the RR which by the way is still on the same piece of crap platform. Jeep improved their already good vehicle by moving the the ML platform.... I guess the new RR will be on a TATA platform next. Yep spare part collectors OCD dream that truck is.

Seriously, my buddy owns the Cayenne and I drive it all the time. Where are you getting the off road capabilities from? I get concerned when there isn't pavement in that thing.

Ya know what...

Folks said the SAME DAMN THING about Supped Up SUVs with big engines, meant for fast driving on roads and tracks!

"That's what Porsche 911s, Mustangs, Corvettes, and other Sports Cars are for."

"You want to drive fast, get a Sports Cars."

"No one is going to drive an big heavy SUV on a race track."

And yet, the Jeep SRT exists, sells well, and is an Awesome vehicle!

Thank you for helping to re-define what clueless means.

And while you're at it, when was the last time you saw a $40,000 - $50,000 SUV actually going offroad on anything more than a Dirt Road. Stupid folks said doing that was stupid and unlikely as well. But I bet there are lots of folks here taking their Overlands or Summits off the trails!

Just because I believe there are vehicles with better overall features than a current Jeep product doesn't mean I think Jeeps are junk. I own a 2012 V8 Overland! That doesn't stop me from acknowledging other vehicles that might be more capable (overall).

Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

but IMHO the air suspensions dont make them capable offroad. The have low profile tires, high perf. tires that are made for streets. neither of those would do any btter than the wk2 SRT offroad.

Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

A couple of things...

1. The 2014 Range Rover Sport is on a totally New platform (Willx).

2. About the RR Sports Off Road ability, MotorTrend wrote:

"Those that want to tackle challenging off-road trails can opt for a beefier system with a two-speed transfer case. This system splits the power 50/50 front/rear, and is able to send 100 percent of the power to either axle. An optional active rear locking differential further boosts off-road capability.

Along with the new drivetrains, the Range Rover Sport gets the new Terrain Response 2 system. Working with Terrain Response 2 is the updated air suspension, which now includes two off-road height settings: a 1.4-inch lift that can be used at speeds up to 50 mph, and a 2.6-inch lift, which gives the Sport 11.2 inches of ground clearance. The suspension is capable of raising an additional 1.4 inches if on-board sensors determine it's necessary. Approach, departure, and breakover angles have improved to 33.0, 31.0, and 27.0 degrees. For those who need to cross the Rubicon on the way to the mall, wading depth has improved to 33.5 inches thanks to the new hood-mounted air intakes."

But of course... Haters Gonna Hate.
