Ok so already on the TATA Platform.

Hater yes, but not your average hater because I choose Jeep for the "Ultimate Combination" of capabilities.

Just saying that I wouldn't take a corner at the same speed in a RR that I would that Cayenne and I wouldn't put the Cayenne offroad and expect it to survive the same way was the RR (minus the parts bin). Really all I see is that neither vehicle does both as well as what you suggest.

I did like another post, add air suspension to the SRT. I mean you would need to vastly modify the Cayenne as well to make it go off road so why isn't that the more logical solution?

Yeah.

When the 2011 JGC was first announced I noticed an Air Suspension would be added for the first time and thought (or at least hoped) it would be available on the SRT lineup. I called Jeep/Chrysler and was told that they had no plans to add it at that time.

I purchased a 2012 Overland and have asked Jeep/Chrysler to re-think their decision about adding Air Suspension to the SRT. I even had a poll on this site asking if anyone else wanted that.

Most folks responded with a "NO".

So I kind of doubt it will ever happen. But I keep hoping.

Tires would need to be adapted to what you use your truck for (be it on-road only, or a compromise between on-road and off-road), because they are such an important part of the equation.
I think the OP was looking into stuff that cannot be adapted as easily as tires (suspension, transfer box, lockers, etc...).

Be kind.
You CAN take a Cayenne Turbo S off road.

The hard part is trying to get it back ON road after a few trail marks.

Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

The issue with Jeep creating an on road and off road capable vehicle is simple, price. A loaded V8 Overland WK2 can be had for $44K, a loaded RR is $114K and a loaded Cayenne Turbo is $150K+. You can buy two or 3 WK2s for that price. Theres no denying the new RR and Cayenne are in a different league than any Jeep. Both of those vehicles will smoke a GC on road however, I think a Overland will go anywhere a RR will. The 958 Cayenne is pretty stout too actually. Now granted the 957 was a better platform for off roading but its still capable.

But if you can afford the Cayenne Turbo or loaded RR, you can buy a nice Overland Hemi, then toss that hemi and stick in an aftermarket 6.1 or 6.4, with or without forced air. The 8 speed ZF should be able to handle it if you don't get crazy or try to tow race a Gelandewagen.

And void your warranty in the process. Why would you buy a WK when the Cayenne or RR can do everything better stock? Seriously, take a Cayenne Turbo for a spin or the new RR, the difference is pretty stark. But then again, there's that huge price gap.

Realistically, WHAT can they do better for what 99% of owners would be using them for?

Faster in a straight line. Handle better on the road - less body roll, more stability through corners, brake harder and shorter, etc. Better steering feel. More comfortable ride with better dampening in regular mode and firmer control in sport modes. Faster transmission shifts. Quicker throttle response.

Pick one.

Comparing a WK to a Cayenne Turbo or a 2014 RR is asinine. I love my WK2, but I know its limitations.
