Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

lol, if ANYONE thinks the WK2 interior is somehow on par with that 2014 RR Sport, you're either on drugs or in denial. Come on, stop kidding yourselves, look at the damn thing, its beautiful.
Im not hating on my cars interior at all, I love my WK2, I think its an amazing value. Its head and shoulders above the older Grand Cherokees or any other competitive vehicle like the 4runner or Pathfinder. However, its not going to be as nice as a $80,000 vehicle, sorry but you have to be realistic here.

Realistically, it's a $40k vehicle priced at $80k.

Actually I did try out a Range Rover... not the Land Rover but a Range Rover.
And a Range Rover Sport.
They are nice. Not 60K worth of nicer than a GC, but nice. And it would have cost me even more to put useable off road tires and severe snow tires on it.

Still almost bought it, but the Jeep is just so much less expensive, and the RR is about as gremlin ridden--perhaps a bit moreso.

As for the Cayenne, before I'd go for a Cayenne, I'd get an SRT8 since both are a tad lacking in ability to handle the places I like to go.

Re: Ultimate SUV: Range Rover Sport or Porsche Cayenne?

don't get me wrong...I really like the Cayenne TT...but for $75k+ more than an SRT? LOL.....

per vids-5.3 0-60 for the RR Sport and 4.5 for the Cayenne TT

You could get a Summit, SRT AND a Wrangler. AND you would end up with MUCH nicer-looking vehicles, inside and out.

Except I'd have to tow the Summit with the SRT to match the RR Sport (1 vehicle that covers Both capabilities). That way I could stop & switch vehicles when I wanted or needed to go offroad (I'm single & often drive alone).

Personally I think the Porsche Cayenne is hugely overpriced for what it does. The Range Rover Sport does almost as good on road & better off road, for about HALF the cost.

BTW, more fuel for the fire...

I know this is totally off topic but what the heck...

You know I just recently got my jeep and I have to say this thing is incredible... Everytime I'm in it I still wonder "this is a jeep?"

I originally started liking the srt in '05. But that vehicle was nothing like the ones of today. In between then and now I had transitioned to (liking) the x5m. But with the new interior and tranny the jeep is absolutely incredible...

And the best thing I read about it so far. Someone in another thread said he was interested in the jeep because of the thread where Amc was considering another one after all his issues...

Sadly I'm pretty sure no matter how bad the issues I would have I like this thing so much that I would still buy or trade for another one

And like many others have said the transmission is world class.

Reading this, im getting the picture that we all agree, that both the Porsche and Jeep are great cars. So my question is, if both were free, which would you prefer?

I'd take the Jeep. I wouldn't pick a vehicle just because it may or may not "be slightly faster" than another, or just because it may or may not "do a little better" off-road or ride/handle "a little better" on-road. Too many other important factors to consider such as exterior and interior design/styling/layout, interior amenities, electronics and intuitiveness for the controls and features, and last but not least, maintenance and future repair costs - the latter of which are typically horrendous on the RR and Cayenne.
