Dodge is supposed to be making a full sized SUV to cometete with Suburban / Tahoe using the Ram platform as its base.

Yup, if you want a big SUV, you will be looking for the upcoming Ram release.

If you look at a RR, MB GL, Jaguar F Pace, or an Audi Q7... they aren't mammoth vehicles. Premium SUV's focus on comfort, tech, speed, and maneuverability... a couple of which, I would not easily assign to a Tahoe or a Suburban sized vehicle.

That said, I own both a GC and a Durango... I have no issues at all with the Durango size. It's about the same size as an RR and can fit an actual adult in the back and still carry a good bit of cargo, but small enough I can easily turn in my own length and zip into parking spots. The Q7 is slightly smaller... and a full size adult man (around 6 foot) is NOT sitting in that 3rd row.

I think shooting for the Durango size is a good idea as that's the target audience (especially if they are looking at the export market at all).

I have a '14 Jeep Overland CRD and wife has a '15 Durango. I love both vehicles, bit they're just not big enough. I have 4 small kids and 2 large dogs. I had to get an enclosed trailer just for trips because luggage wont fit. Minivan is not an option. I need something that can also pull my boat and has AWD.

I really dont like the features of the Tahoe or Suburban, and not to mention the terrible gas mileage. I was really holding out to see if they would upgrade the tech, get rid of 6spd trans, and drop a diesel in there, but still no word on that.

Now with the full size SUV Ram, hopefully they actually put some thought into it. The ram already has the diesel option, which is supposed to get a slight power gain. The inside of the Ram is just like the Jeep amd Durango; same tech. I believe the Ram still has a solid rear axle, which is okay for a pickup, but I hope they dont use that on the SUV as well. I leased the Durango, so Im keeping my eye on the wagoneer as well.

2019 Grand Wagoneer

I own a 14 Durango RT, and a 15 GC Overland. I also love them both, and I agree the Durango is brilliant but a foot shorter of being a real suburban killer 😎

Doesn't matter to me. If they throw the 6.4 in it and add the SRT touches I may just pull the trigger on the D. Still want to see an update on the Waggy design , though. C'mon FCA....throw us a bone!!!!

This isn't all that accurate. The LR Range Rover is massive and it also comes in an extended version. The Mercedes GLS, formerly GL, is the largest 3 row of all luxury SUVs aside from the Escalade ESV. I believe that the GLS is definitely a mammoth. It's big and looks big. It's just not an old school body on frame, entirely like the GM ute.

I'm excited to see the BMW X7.

Uh... check your underpinnings.

Durango = GL
Grand Cherokee = ML

Seriously.

And I park next to RR's and GL/GLS's all day long, my Durango is about the same length.

Actually, I just checked, an RR is 196 inches long, the GLS... *shock* 198.6 inches long, the Durango is 201 inches long.

If you want a huge 3 row with ample cargo room, the Suburban, Tahoe, and Escalade are it. The Ford Expedition is the next runner up.

That said, I'm curious to see what Ram is rolling out for their SUV and if they are targeting the Tahoe catagorie. The Grand Waggy, however, if they are going toe to toe with the "smaller" full sized ute's will want to stick in the 195-205 range (220+ get's you Suburban).

I just can't see a Jeep that size ever maintaining it's "Trail rated" status, nor could it complete over seas.

Now, the SRT Durango is hella sexy... but I'm still pining away for my diesel version...
