Disappointing there is not any news on this. You would think by now we would have spy photos, updated renderings, and a release date. Doesn't look like the Grand Wagoneer will be coming any time soon.

I would prefer a Jeep, but there are two three row diesel that have been out for a few years. Mercedes GL350 Bluetec and Audi Q7 3.0 TDI.

sorry, why are there no 3 row diesels with a base price under $52,000? $52,000 is the base price for the Audi, while the GL350 Bluetec starts at $61,500.

Re: Any photos or updates on this subject?

There was. The Ford Excursion. Most awesome yet HUGE. Voted worst constructed vehicle ever due to its size.

I guess there just isn't an American market for diesels for large families... I haven't seen/paid attention to the German Diesel SUVs and their pricing is outrageous.

AND

EPA estimated mpg on the 2012 GL350 bluetec is
17/city 21/highway........

Awful... Not worth 60K+

And that's dry weight. If you actually used it as a DD for the kids etc that would drop...

Re: Any photos or updates on this subject?

A lot of people with the GL diesels get much higher fuel economy than that. But frankly, at that price point it's unlikely that fuel consumption is your main concern.

I think part of the problem is that diesls aren't really cost effective. They're great, but the fuel is expensive in the US, they use a LOT of oil, and they cost more to purchase at first. Families looking for fuel efficient 3 rows now are buying crossovers like Explorer, CX-9, Highlander, etc. The market for a true 3 row SUV is limited, and largely piggybacks off the market for fullsize trucks.

The reality is, the people wanting economical 3 row CUVs are just buying smaller engined vehicles that are lighter and less capable. People who want more functionality have to buy a truck based SUV. People who want both are small in number and not willing to pay the money for such a vehicle.

I fully expect a Wagoneer Diesel with decent equipment to be mid 40s. That's a price point that will put it out of the range of most people looking for fuel efficient 3 rows.

and that would make it the least expensive, and one of the most fuel efficient three row vehicles in the US market. Also the only one that would be able to tow. Think about it, currently you cannot have three rows, decent fuel economy, and towing in a vehicle sub-$50k.

Diesel ($3.89) in my area is still $.10 cheaper than ethanol-free premium ($3.99), which is what I put in my current vehicle.

Depends on how much you consider "decent" for towing. You can get a huge number of 3 row CUVs that will tow 3500-5000 pounds... Highlander, Explorer, Flex, CX-9, the GM Lambdas, Pilot, Sorento... you get the picture.

But you may have a point, it's near certain the basic Wagoneer will be more than the Explorer, so it may reach well into the $50s nicely equipped. I guess that also depends what you mean by nicely equipped though.

All the same, I think a diesel GW is a hugely awesome idea, and is definitely something I'd be interested in.

There was no talk of the Wagoneer at the dealer show in Vegas. There wasn't one there either.

Re: Any photos or updates on this subject?

Would it be normal for a brand new model to be unveiled at the dealer show, rather than minimizing risk of leaks by waiting for the big unveiling at the auto show?

They unveiled the new GC, Liberty, 200, 100, Ram, special editions Wranglers, Town and Country, etc. I don't think they realize that some people are going to take notes and really try to remember what they saw so people like me can post the info.

Re: Any photos or updates on this subject?

So the take away from this is its likely farther down in the pipeline than first expected. 2015 or something of that nature?
