Re: Marchionne to probably delay/cancel Grand Wagoneer
I think that delaying the intro of the GW is a mistake. While people may be fleeing from the Tahoes and Expeditions, they're buying up GLs, Q7s, QX56s, Explorers, etc. in droves.
People like these slightly smaller crossovers because of the fact that they're not trucks, and drive smoother. Something that slotted right above the Grand Cherokee in size, price, and quality would do quite well, stealing sales from the people buying the luxury 3 rows - and it'd fill a gap in Chrysler's offerings. Right now you have to get either a Journey (small) or a Durango (polarizing styling), a smart move for them would be to position a GW as a step up from Durango, and make a new Chrysler Pacifica as a step up from Journey.
I have a GMC Acadia as a rental car right now. I hate the engine, it's one of the worst engines for the vehicle ever as it is totally devoid of power down low, but has plenty of power once it revs up (so you'll literally plant your foot to get moving then hit its version of VTEC and smoke your tires, not very luxurious at all). It's a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride with some very questionable material choices and a decidedly low tech set of features. The leather feels cheap, and the steering wheel rim is too small in diameter.
It's not bad overall, but Explorer is way better IMO. I'm getting 15/21 out of it, with most of my time in it spent cruising highways. It desperately needs ye old 5.3L V8 from the Monte Carlo SS.
Durango Citadel is nice looking, but its styling just doesn't work for me. It's too rounded, and the interior doesn't look very upscale. Mercedes' GL is the clear standout in this class as the best.
