Garage
Vehicle Name Mango Tango Trailhawk aka "Lava Hawk"
Year 2016
Make Jeep
Model Cherokee Trail Hawk
Color Mango Tango Pearlcoat
Packages Cold Weather Package, Towing Package (heavy duty suspension, engine cooling)
2016 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk
History Brand new with 23 miles on it that I test drove a week ago then search the East Coast and decided to trade the 2001 WK2 limited. A different kind of cool. Sticks to the snow covered roads like it was Velcro with the big Owl tires.
Exterior
nothing yet, but looking at HID headlights.
Love the shark front with black matte on the hood with black matte Jeep hood badging

Interior
Looking at premium speakers.
4- 6" x 9" and 2 front dash 5.25". I just need to see the options.

I do need to line some of the many compartments with a sticky rubber or soft velvet type cloth..
I have dash camera from my WK2

Love the heated everything.

Under the Hood
3.2L 24 valve V6 VVT Engine with Electric stop/start

K&N filter will be ordered, but nothing while the Power train warranty is still intact. I wish I didn't have the trailer package as it has a closer total gear ratio and may lose a little at the top end. Its new so I will see what I do with it.

Wheel and Tire
Aluminum and Black painted 17" x 7.5" wide 245/65R17 Owl aggressive All-Terrain tires.

Suspension
Active Drive II Select Terrain System with Jeep Active lock

Off-Road suspension

In-Car Entertainment
The 8.4" 2016 touch screen is a nice system built to actually work with iPhones and it has an active Siri you can use without moving eyes off the road.

This one for now.

Second one borrowed from the net. But snowy and dark up here now. Very fun to drive. I'm just making the 300 Mike transmission break in as good as possible. Not a fan of electric stop and start. Glad there is a button to turn it off and unless I'm in heavy traffic I don't plan on using it. Amazing interior. Heated everything. Even the engine can be plugged in if the Mercury plunges too far below zero. However just South of Lake Ontario we don't get that cold that often. Still single digits are very common. It all depends on how much of the Great Lakes are frozen.

This comes in very handy in the snow zone but so did the GC Limited. A different kind of fun experience. I don't have to haul kids or gear for them so this is truly my car. Let them deal with their Honda CR-V. Though its me that maintains them.

Lava Hawk or Lava Shark. That front end really grows on you more than the other Cherokees.

Have you done any upgrades? I am considering speaker upgrades although the stock system sounds very good. I say the Mopar OEM Kicker speakers for a decent price, I just hate pulling body panels, but at least Mopar products are just plug and play. Still I think some 3 way 6 x 9 might provide a richer sound that just 6 x 9 woofers. There are a lot of better brands as Kicker is basically a sub-woofer bass increase. I still consider monkeying with a set unit without having a separate speaker amplifier installed a bit risky. I do like to listen to great music and the WK2 had a nice system as did the buick regal I had before with Harmon Kardon system that was really nice.

Anyway I am sitting still on a cargo mat right now, but I had a nice one for the wK2 and it served its purposes well.

I think the trail hawks will hold there value similar to XJ as they are trail rated and they made their entry angles and rear angles specifically for of roading.

Did one upgrade recently, Rocky Rocky outfitters Cherokee KL Super Sliders / side rails and diamond cover plates. Installed these about a week ago and love them. Here's a closeup pic.

I am interested in adding RRO front bumper guard and light kit or perhaps light and winch kit and maybe a roof rack upgrade. Front bumper guard looks like this pic (not my jeep, pic from RRO site)

I was considering cargo mat as well, many different options....

Stereo upgrade you have in mind sounds good too!

Re: Mango Tango Trailhawk aka "Lava Hawk" :: 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk

Those look nice. I liked the winch option as well, though i don't know how practical it would be. I was looking at Rocky road this evening.

I had a jeep cargo liner last time, and weather tech is so over priced. There are many options on eBay, and eventually I will get one. It so nice to put a gallon of milk or a bag of groceries on one and have them not slide even the least bit.

Thanks for the info.

Regards,

David Draper. Webster, NY

Nice Mango!! Good luck in the frozen tundra, I'm originally from the Poconos in PA, don't miss it.

I'm from the West Coast buy spent 4 years in NJ as a middle school high school kid. I learned to ski at Jack Frost and Camelback. My wife is from here. We been here letting our daughter have stability growing up. I hate the Winters but beautiful Summers and Autumn as well.

I'll look for that site.
