2 week report: likes and dislikes

Just in case some prospective buyer is curious about the experience of a 2 week 2014 Cherokee Limited owner, I thought I would share some subjective opinions based on my experience. YMMV. I have the tech, cold weather, and luxury packages. I will say up front that I am not what some would consider a typical Jeep Guy, nor do I claim to be. I wanted an SUV with an upscale interior and lots of modern tech that can get me to work and back in the snow and handle the offroad drive to my fishing camp.
Likes:
1. Great build quality. No issues whatsoever.
2. Amazing tech package. Lane departure warning, active cruise control, automatic parking all work great.
3. Upgraded audio sounds super. UConnect is very easy to learn and to use.
4. Great nighttime visibility with the advanced headlights.
5. The 3.2L V6 engine and transmission play nicely together. Plenty of power.
6. The ride is quiet and comfy enough. I was a bit worried about the Active Drive 2 being too harsh but itís fine for me.
7. Handling is good for a vehicle of its size. Did fine in a foot of snow last week.
8. Love the moon/sun roof.
9. The interior is very upscale and equals my Porsche Carrera for look and feel. Seats are very nice and the upgraded leather looks and feels good. Lots of storage fore and aft.
Donít like:
1. Front seat cupholders are too far aft. Almost have to reach behind myself and Iím 6í2 so the seat is pretty far back.
2. The ventilated seat option takes away the cool under passenger seat storage bin, and this was not mentioned anywhere in the sales process.
3. The order process is a bit aggravating due to lack of info and poor status updates. Mine spent 7 days in a rail yard in Mass, which Milous knew but Jeep claimed to know nothing about. No hard feelings though.

So thatís pretty short list of dislikes, and they really are just minor annoyances. In the last 20 years Iíve owned Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW and Porsche and the Cherokee has been just as satisfying as any of them. Itís an amazing vehicle and priced very well IMHO.

Re: 2 week report: likes and dislikes

Thanks for the report! I am impatiently waiting for my Trailhawk and glad to hear you are enjoying the ride. I was reluctant to read the list of cons but since I couldn't get the ventilated seats on the TH, I don't need to worry about that. The cup holders are a peeve of mine with my Subie Forester...too far back and under the console sliding top (compared to your height, I am a munchkin but my husband hates it too) and that was one thing I checked when on the test drive.

I am thinking I made the right decision! Thanks for the positive feedback!

As this is not actually listed as a feature anywhere I would have been amazed if they did mention it. More so I would be amazed if they even knew it existed.

I just checked mine, and while the fan does take up room, it doesn't take up all of the room like the QL pump does.

It's the Cherokee he's reviewing Snuke, not the Grand. Thanks for the review Aldonola. Am patiently waiting for its release in Australia where I think we will be purchasing the Limited.

Thanks for the heads-up also on the Ventilated seats vs the storage area. Not sure yet how the export specs will stack up against the domestic specs but thanks for that tip anyway.

Ahhh yes, I didn't look at that, sorry.

Is it listed as a feature for the Cherokee?

Yes and it was a feature that I was looking forward to using. If I remember correctly, it also has a 'easter egg' on it being an imprint of ... edited - because it's actually the Hells Revenge trail in Moab.

It definitely is listed as a feature. Also mentioned by every salesman I spoke with. The seat ventilator does completely remove the bin so I'll stand by my comment. But Im not upset because I ordered it the very day they showed up on the lot and I don't think they had even seen one with ventilated seats yet.

I follow you now SNuke. All in all I still find that the Cherokee has plenty of storage area even without the underseat bin. The glove box is gigantic. The center console has a lot of room as well, even with the remote CD player installed in it. Storage space in the doors as well.

SNuke, are you a fellow former submariner as well?

No, now I am curious as to where that question comes from.

I am very happy to lose any storage space the ventilation pump takes up in the GC, they are fantastic, loving them at the moment.

Re: 2 week report: likes and dislikes

Snuke, those of us who operated and maintained the nuclear reactor on Navy ships were called Nukes (and a few less flattering things too). When you got submarine qualified, i.e. earned your dolphins, you got to put the designator SS next to your title. So Snuke looked familiar to me.

In order to not remain completely off-topic: the airflow in the ventilated seats doesn't seem to be as strong as in my other car. In your experience does it perform well in the summertime?

Re: 2 week report: likes and dislikes

That is pretty much where I thought you were going.
The reference to snuke comes from South Park, it is not nearly as classy as your reference - see here: Snuke Found - Video Clips - South Park Studios

As for the seats, it was approx 90F here today when I went out, and they are great. I have not had them before in any of my previous cars. I had the climate control set to 66F.
I do switch between running them high and low depending on the conditions.
