Most of us don't like hearing "operator error", I'm still surprise myself when preoccupied and still functioning with routine activity.

As mentioned earlier, it can't be the Uconnect start up or it would have shut down after 15mins.

Re: 2014 Cherokee - Starting by Itself

A similar thing happened to me in February when my fob was no where near me.

I posted my experience on this forum, and all the experts who post here thought I was crazy.

Trailhawk starts by itself -- UConnect Hack?

I also called Chrysler who told me to change my UConnect password. I did one better and canceled my UConnect features (removed the credit card on file with Jeep).

I asked dealers whether they ever heard of this and the answer was "No. Gosh are those antenna I see sticking out of your head?"

However, with the recent release of Jeep Cherokee as the most hackable vehicle, I don't feel so crazy.

My advice (1) get the software update released by Chrysler and/or (2) disable your UConnect account and delete any credit cards on file with Chrysler, because that's where the money is that hackers will eventually go for.

Only the 2015's and later have this option.

Would be interested in hearing an updaye given 2 months have passed. Given the display said the key had left the vehicle this indicates the engine was running as she walked away.

Re: 2014 Cherokee - Starting by Itself

Well, you're not insane. This just happened with our 2014 Cherokee, twice this past week, and the second incident unfortunately occurred in a closed garage. The Jeep idled indoors for more than three hours, pushing the temp in the garage over 100 degrees. Upon discovering it, I shut it off immediately. Upon restarting it idled roughly, so may have engine damage related to overheating. Initial repairs proposed by the dealership include replacing the throttle body, and addressing errors in seven computer codes. Once that's done, they can better assess any internal damage.

I can say with virtual certainty that the Jeep did somehow start itself. I drove it to the dealership for repairs, and it ran surprisingly well. After parking, I shut it off, got out and jumped in the car in which my wife had followed. I noticed the Jeep's lights were still on, so asked my wife about it. She thought it was normal, but I thought I'd better check. I walked over to it, and the dang thing was running! I had previously thought just maybe my wife forgot to shut it off, but the third incident was the clincher.

Re: 2014 Cherokee - Starting by Itself

Came back here to research another issue and figured I'd give an update on the Cherokee starting by itself. Sorry for not posting an update sooner

The issue happened three times but hasn't happened in the last year or so. I'm hoping that it is gone for good, but will surely be back if not. There is not one fix that I can point to that stopped it from happening. My guess is there was something with UConnect remote start that was cleared up via a software update at some point.

I am definitely relieved to see that other people had the issue as well. You are not crazy, folks. Electronic/ software issues are really tough to fix because they often are not easily replicable for us laypeople. Stay strong.

Re: 2014 Cherokee - Starting by Itself

Just a suggestion...I have my U connect set up to send me an email and text if anything is activated via the app. Like auto start or lock/open doors and even if the alarm sounds. So set up your acct like that so if someone is hacking into your acct you will at least get a notification.
