Re: 2014 JEEP Cherokee KL- Reveal...pics...specs etc!!!!!!

I didn't like the front end when it was first revealed last month. I still think the headlights are funky and the tailgate has a bit too much blank metal.

BUT, now having seen the Trailhawk and the features list, I like it. This IS a mini Grand Cherokee that will probably cost $10K less. It clearly has some half-decent offroad capability (something no hynudai or kia or BMW can say). It has lots of the same safety features that the WK2 has including blind spot monitoring, lane change thingy, adaptive cruise control. Those features can't be had for less than $43K in a WK2. I am presuming this thing will top out in the mid $30K range. This Cherokee has a real transfer case and a real locking differential. Before you had to get a Wrangler to get that. The Trailhawk is factory lifted 1". AWESOME!! The only thing left to know is how good the fuel economy on the V6 Trailhawk will be.

Right now I drive a 2010 Subaru Forester which does better than most crossovers in mud, dirt, and snow. It lacks a low range though tt has over 8.5" of clearance; that beats my old KJ. This new Cherokee Trailhawk will also have 8.5" of clearance. That is hard to find in most crossovers.

So yes, this is a jeep crossover, but it is one with some half-decent offroad chops. This will be awesome for fire roads, beach trails, snow, and mild river fording. That sounds good to me.

I predict lackluster sales, massive incentives to move the 2014s, and massively restyled 2015 models that may even launch early.

I have changed my mind. Based on this pic, the new Cherokee is truly a badass little 4x4.

I nearly spit my coffee out when I read this on cars.com about the new Cherokee.

Looks like Jeep.com has a bit more info now. Also interesting is all the offroad stats are given based off a removed front lower fascia. (Breakover angle, departure angle)

Doesn't look too bad in silver. I guess I will wait and see in person...

Whoa, anyone read this quote from Michael Manley on CNN.com?

"Unlike the Liberty, which Manley described as a "niche" vehicle designed more for off-road prowess than on-road comfort and handling, the new Cherokee is designed to appeal to a broader audience beyond traditional Jeep loyalists, he said."

So the KJ & KK were designed for offroad prowess? Every time I start softening my opinion of this thing, I read something else that makes me seriously question the direction of this brand. I cannot help feeling like supporting this new "Jeep" is like supporting the destruction of the brand.

Re: 2014 JEEP Cherokee KL- Reveal...pics...specs etc!!!!!!

When I saw this vehicle the first time I hated - HATED it. I have to say, it's growing on me. I'm not at a "like" point, but after seeing the interior, reading some of the functionality & features, etc., I could drive it.

I did an "informal poll" of some people I know at work. None of them are jeep owners. Comments ranged from "pretty cool", to "not bad". No one said they disliked it. Maybe I/we are too hung up on what the Liberty/Cherokee used to be or what we thought it would be..

Tristar - I actually think that quote is reasonable. I own a 2011 Liberty. It's a decent vehicle, great off road, in the snow, etc., but it rides like a truck. It's not smooth. The Grand Cherokee is one of the most capable off road vehicles you'll find, yet they found a way to make it enjoyable on the highway as well. That's where the KJ/KK failed. I don't think it's a "destruction o the brand", it's an evolution. For the small number of people that would buy it for the off road capability, in spite of the bad on-road manners, Jeep had to do something or they wouldn't sell any.

If that's the case, those roof rails aren't parallel.

That image is photoshopped, and very poorly at that.

Re: 2014 JEEP Cherokee KL- Reveal...pics...specs etc!!!!!!

I'm trying to figure out why the back looks so terrible. I cannot put my finger on it. To much like a Hyundai?

Very disappointing fuel economy, only 31 mpg highway?

After watching this and all of the other videos recently posted on youtube of this vehicle I must say she really looks good in motion.

Before passing judgement check out the videos of this trail machine, she looks totally different on the move!!!
