2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude-New Car Woes

I've had my new 2014 Jeep Latitude for 2 1/2 weeks-run up 1000 miles. I have had it back to the dealership 2 times and this Monday will be no 3.
Issues:
1) Chemical fumes entering cabin when car is running or just sitting in garage. Dealership spent 5 hrs scraping off tags. Still happening. Cannot keep car in garage anymore.

2) Cold Weather Package-works sometimes

3) No Eco Mode as advertised in owners manual

4) Uconnect-my 3 G phone will not stay connected. Uconnect says they are adding phones as the software is being upgraded.

Love the car-very sad about the issues
Has anyone else experienced these problems or did I buy a dud?

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude-New Car Woes

Have had my garage kept, loaded, 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited II, 3.2L for just over 6 weeks now with around 600 miles on it. So far my Jeep has been perfect in every way and exceeds my expectations.

I think he is talking about the heated seats coming on and doesn't realize they won't come on automatically if the outside temperature is not below 40 degrees. Parking in a garage (even if it is not a heated garage) plays havoc with the system as it can be below freezing outside and 41 degrees in the garage and the seats won't come on automatically.

Currently at 1,578 miles with absolutely no issues to report. My Cherokee Limited is a pleasure to drive and I am averaging 25 MPG combined city and highway driving. So far my new Cherokee more than exceeds my expectations.

BTW, I would be willing to bet that the so called chemical smell you are smelling is the oily chemical spray put on metal parts at the factory to preserve them, burning off. Some people are more sensitive to it than others.

I can't help you with #3 as I can't find anything in the full Cherokee manual about Eco Mode. We are talking about a JEEP and JEEPS are not known for getting the best mpg nor did I expect that.

As to #4, I have an extremely cheap Android Samsung Galaxy Tracfone (less than $100). Sometimes when I am working in the garage I will turn my Cherokee's 8.4N on. It will immediately pair with my Tracfone which is still in the house in my bedroom and stay paired until I shut my Cherokee's 8.4N off. I think the issue is with your phone and not with the Cherokee. Uconnect only pairs with specific versions of bluetooth. I just had the free firmware upgrade (13.48.3) done to my Cherokee's Uconnect. With the upgrade when in the garage I can even bluetooth pair to my Tracfone in the house and then use Pandora over my wifi in the house while not using any minutes or data off of of my Tracfone.

Respectfully, I have a couple of suggestions for you. Stop running to your dealer with imagined problems. I don't really see one real issue among your 4 supposed problems but I do see an uninformed owner. Here are my 2 suggestions:

1.) Read throughly on both Jeep Garage.org and Jeep Cherokee Club.com as to how your vehicle is supposed to operate.

2.) Call 1-800- MyJeep, Auburn Hills Chrysler Headquarters, and politely request they send you the 4 FULL manuals that go with your Cherokee. You are entitled to one FREE copy of all 4 full manuals with FREE shipping with the purchase of your Jeep. When they arrive sit down and read them cover to cover. I think you will find that you really don't have any problems.

Relax, enjoy, and stop being so uptight. I really don't think you have any problems yet.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude-New Car Woes

Thank you macfan for you no nonsense response.
As you pointed out, I may be an uninformed owner. Though, I compare my husband's experience when he bought his Grand Cherokee 2 years ago and we never had to return to the dealership.

The owner's manual (nor the dealership) mentioned that the heated seats do not come on unless the temp is below 40 degrees. I will test that theory this week when it is suppose be only in the 20s.

As I continue to receive helpful responses from everyone-my "imagined" issues may be explained and I may become an educated Jeep owner before the scheduled 3rd visit to the dealership.

Thank you everyone for your support. This is why I joined this Jeep Garage.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude-New Car Woes

mini kee;

Read about Remote Start Comfort Settings. The seats and steering wheel should come on when the temp is below 40 degrees and the vehicle is programmed to turn them on. See pages 33 & 34, 154, and then 381( 381 actually tells how to do it )of the OM. You have to activate that feature under customized programming. It sounds to me like they should be ON by default but maybe they were turned off on yours? It sounds like they only come on automatically when RS is used but maybe it can be setup for normal starts too?

ECO is not a "mode" per say but rather it is a pre-stored message. It appears in your odometer whenever you are driving in such a way to achieve maximum MPG. It doesn't appear it is something you can access or monitor. Looks like it will just popup whenever your driving causes it. Not sure if it is in the standard 3.5" B&W display or just the 7" color one? It doesn't say? See page 115 of the User Guide.

Have the dealer see if you have the most recent update to Uconnect. It may actually be your phone as the other member said. All phones are not compatible( in part or even at all 0with all Bluetooth systems used in cars. You may have a phone that doesn't work well with the Cherokee system.

The heated steering wheel and heated driver's seat will come on after activated in settings and it is below 40 degrees in one of 3 ways:

1.) normal start with key or push button

2.) remote start using the FOB

3.) remote start using the Uconnect app on your smart phone

In my particular case I have a well insulated garage so I most always have to turn the heated steering wheel and seat on manually. But if I drive some where and leave the Cherokee sit outside while I am inside they will come on with a normal restart when I return. Another things most people don't realize is that it is only the heated driver's seat that is automatic. The heated passenger seat will always have to be turned on manually.

Personally, I think Uconnect needs to add a line of code to the voice recognition commands to operate the heated steering wheel and heated seats.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude-New Car Woes

There are no imagined issues. New cars sometimes give off odors as residue burns off. Its kind of like after you have a new exhaust system put on a used car it will give off a burning smell. My Jeep with 400 miles does give off an odor in the garage when I pull in in and shut it down. That will pass..........
I do remember reading something in the manual that something is suppose to show up next to the odometer if your driving is conducive to good MPG. I know on the limited I have an informational screen that shows MPG and what is optimal and what I am achieving.
Also my $29.99 flip trac phone keeps paring every time I bring u-connect on line. Now all I have to do is figure out how to call or receive hands free.

The Transmission has finally settled down from the rough shifts and the hesitation going from 1st to what ever gear it was trying to find.
I just have to read the book again.
All I can say is this vehicle is unbelievable and I love it.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude-New Car Woes

Thanks to everyone for their input. I havbe confirmed that the Cold Weather pkg (heated setas and steering wheel) do come on -but only if it is cold outside.

The phone connection is a "work in progress".

The Chemical Smell may be related to a connection issue. I noted someone mentioend that the clamp near the exhaust was loose etc. Since I am finding liquid drops under the car-I am assuming it is a clamp or overflow.

With everyones' help here at Jeep Garage I have begun my journey to become an educated Jeep owner a fan of my 2014 Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Garage.

Thank you again!
