2014 Jeep cherokee recall

Vehicles Affected: Nearly 16,000 model-year 2014 Jeep Cherokee crossovers and Ram 1500s, and 2015 Chrysler 200 sedans
The Problem: Due to an insufficient weld, the rear shocks may detach from the vehicle at one end and possibly damage other chassis components or the tire, or result in reduced braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Chrysler will begin notifying owners this month, and dealers will inspect the rear shocks and replace any affected ones for free.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Chrysler at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.

Re: 2014 Jeep cherokee recall

Just entered my (Trailhawk, Jan. 2014 build) VIN: 0 recalls for this vehicle.

Perhaps the data isn't uploaded to the safercar.gov website? Or the Trailhawk (AD II) suspension shocks aren't part of the recall? Will check back later.

Re: 2014 Jeep cherokee recall

Thanks for the info as it always helps. Mine was built in june 2014 and hope it missed the recalls. VIN shows no recalls as of yet.

nobody will know for sure for a few weeks while they ready the letters and populate the VIN database for disclosure...

Not totally true. This only involves the last 16,000 or so built and that number includes other Chrysler vehicles as well. You are far more likely to be involved in this recall if you are a late build. I would say if yours was built in the the first quarter of 2014 or earlier you are home free with nothing to be concerned about.

Sorry, but huh? I can't find where it is being reported that this pertaining to only the "last 16,000 or so built"... It could be any section of 16k span.

Excuse me but there is no way it could include MY2015 vehicles if the recall included early MY2014 builds. If you counted 16,000 from when MY2014 began it would not make it into the MY2015 builds. Simple math. I highly doubt the problem skipped months of builds.

I'm just having fun here, but I repeat, HUH? You are correct that it is simple math. They build like 3-4,000 JGC's a week so this recall is for less than a month's production, it could be a run from any stretch during production that the faulty part was used.

Like I said, nobody will know if they are clear/caught for a few weeks. The "no reports of problems" might imply it went unnoticed til now, who knows. I agree, this stuff does not usually jump around build dates.

Not sure what you are getting at with the MY15 comment as I thought this was only for MY14.

There is your first mistake. This recall is not for Grand Cherokees but for Cherokees. Your second mistake is that the Ram and the new Chrysler 200 is also included in this recall. Third mistake is that the new Chrysler 200 so far only has a MY2015. With the new Chrysler 200 in mind this problem has to be a relatively new problem.

Dude, CHILL! I only was letting folks know to relax as they won't know jack for a few weeks, FACT!

Yes, I did jump on a new thread without reading it fully, my mistake sir. I did, infact, miss the all important word "Grand". Feel free to further flambe' me for my egregious errors. Second and third "mistakes"? Uh, never said the others were not included and I was only talking to the thread topic (Jeep) units.

Relax man, take the spirit of someone's comments and respond based on that. If there are errors, certainly correct them, but nicely.

That's the problem with impersonal forums, people don't talk to the other person the same they would in person, I HOPE
