Do you still have your Cherokee? I recall you were one of the first to report the wobble (o another forum). Have you been successful using the bungee cord method?

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

Thanks. We've cancelled the first trip. I sure hope they will have the kit available and installed by the middle of July.

Dealer still can't give me any idea when the kit will be here. When one thinks of what is likely involved with manufacturing the kit it makes me wonder what could possibly be taking so long.

Dealer looked up kit... doesn't know when it will be in... says he'll get back to me. If he installs kit it'll be his first. The kit with part# 68321424AA is no longer available... new kit is part# 68321424AB. I wrote FCA asking when it'll be available... still waiting.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

MY Cherokee has had the harness installed. I did use the bungee tiedown for a 1000 mile trip last summer. No problems.

They are giving you incorrect information. Here is an update to your link with the current info where it clearly states that all 14-16 model year cherokees with AD2. Are effected .

It has also been updated in the 2016 manual that you must use the wiring harness to tow.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

I had the wiring harness installed this week. The harness was ordered by the dealership last week, and, even though it was backordered, it arrived in about 8 days. If a dealer is telling anyone that it isn't available until July, find another dealer to do it. No cost to the installation or part.

Does anybody know if the 10 amp fuse, which must be installed and removed under the hood, is part of the circuit with the switch (installed in the console) or is it part of another circuit? If part of the switch circuit, why must it be removed when the switch isn't being used? Shouldn't the switch, in the 'off' position, cut power to the circuit, thereby rendering the fused circuit dead?

If it's part of a separate circuit, it would seem FCA could have found a more convenient place to install it, such as in the center console, next to the switch. But that would have required a longer piece of wire, I guess.

There are two different circuits involved. If I remember correctly, one circuit activates the "wobble mitigation" system and the other separates it from other systems on the CAN bus which would otherwise throw fault codes.

Some owners have mentioned that they've wired a switch in series with the underhood fuse... a good idea, I think. What boggles the mind is why FCA would place a fuse underhood and then bother to place a switch inside the car instead of in the same place the fuse is. (or... to have two switches inside the car, the second for the circuit of the new underhood fuse.) How could anyone think that having these two separate locations would be user-friendly for owners?

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

Could they not mount the switch and the fuse under the hood?

It appears the switch was placed close to a large CAN bus connector under the console box and the EPS bus-communication wire plugs into that connector. The purpose of the switch is to interrupt the EPS communications while towing. They could possibly have run the switch's wires to the engine compartment, but that may have violated bus line length restrictions and also they would have needed to poke through the firewall and into an area exposed to moisture/dirt and probably figured why do that if not necessary.

The fuse is about switching 12V from the PDC to the EPS motor and system. That's why it's by the PDC. I'm going to splice a waterproof switch into that line like others have done to keep from having to pull/replace the fuse.

Mrk454,
Did they charge you for the harness and installation?

Where did they place the switch?

Thanks

There is no charge for the harness or installation. However, you need to open a star case. Your dealer can do that for you. If your dealer is not aware of the harness, show them the latest TSB: http://www.wk2jeeps.com/Misc/Cheroke...08_029_16a.pdf.

The switch is installed in the console box between the USB port and 12V outlet.

The fuse holder is part of a wire that exits the left side of the PDC (Power Distribution Center) in the engine compartment.
